Q: Distorted video or no video issues MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz SantaRosa

Hello !

My MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz

MacBook Pro 3,1

Intel Core2 Duo 2 Nucleos

2.20 Ghz - (15¨ inch Display)

Cache 4 Mb

Model Number: A1226

(Santa Rosa)

The problem: startup with screen stripes an artifacts.

Apple Hardware Tool and Apple Service Diagnostic they gave the same result:

4VDC/1/40000003:video controller

Apple say:

Article: TS2377

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377?viewlocale=en_US

"If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within four years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."

But in my case: I have not obtained positive answer of Apple although my MacBook Pro meets the conditions exactly.

From November of the 2011 I come requesting entrance to "Exchange and Repair Extension Program" without success.

See:

http://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/

see fifth line.

Apple maintains the open subject.

In forum I have seen recent entrances with the same problem but they if they have found solution on the part of Apple.

That I can do?

I had the same problem but mine was related to what the article described, that is, a blank black screen during boot up.

I went to the Genius Bar by appointment.  They used a tool to confirm that this video hardware was the problem.  However, I was out of warranty by a couple of months.  Then I pointed out to them that the phrase below used the word "or" instead of "and".

"If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within four years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."

After pointing this out to the supervisor, I got the repairs done for free.  Otherwise it would have cost me several hundred dollars.

Go to the nearest Genius Bar now and get your repairs done for free.

I was told today that even though my MBP failed there test and the logic board needed to be replaced, I was outside there 4 year window of repair. So the only option I was given was to pay $310 and they would send it in for repair and fix any problem my MBP had, whether it was logic board, hard drive etc. Not free anymore. I purchased my MBP July 2007 and it didn't fail on me until Jan. 30, 2012 and therefore I was out of luck. I am a loyal apple customer that has in my family purchased iPhones for myself, wife and daughter, iPad for the wife, new MBP for daughter for college and still can't get Apple to help me out here. Awesome customer service!
