Q: airport utility install fails

I've tried to install airport utility 6.0 through software update and it continually fails.  The process has bricked the installed airport utility 5.6.  I've gone to apple's support site and downloaded both installer packages and both fail as well.

Any suggestions?

Same same, and after trying airport utility 5.5.3 crashes when starting up. So now I can't connect to my networks (express and capsule). Remember the days when Apple updates ran smooth and perfect. Something is terrible wrong in the Apple software division...

I have the same issue...I have tried through both autoupdate and standalone installers for 5.6 and 6.0. Now I can't access my network to manage it.  What's really going on here? Apple please fix this....

all i could do was to delete the airport app with this command:

    sudo rm -rf /Applications/Utilities/AirPort\ Utility.app

    and installed the previous version......

    Update:

I removed the Airport Utility using CleanMyMac, once done I re-installed v5.3 and the install completed with no issues...I then tried to do the update and once again I got the same install error message that I got initially. So removed it again and re-installed v5.3 and now things are working.

There's somethings wrong with both the 5.6 and 6.0 installers, which makes me wonder about the firmware update for TimeMachine...

Apple shed some light on this issue.....

Same here - install fails. If i click on Airport Utility now it wont even open - its useless to me currently.

If Apple didnt spend so much time hawking iPads and iPhones, maybe they would do a better job with their updates to the tried and true Mac Computers (ok, snarky comment, but i'm miffed).

it would be interesting for me to know if you all have upgraded your system like me from snow leopard to lion ?

anyway i never had such a problem with mac osx before with updating and installing progs....the fail installer felt like a windows machine hehe.....

i hope apple will give us a solution as soon as possible.....

      CPU:    2

      Core:    4

      L2-cache (per processor):    4 MB

      Memory:    7 GB

      Busspeed:    1,33 GHz

      Boot ROM-version:    MP11.005C.B08

      SMC-version (system):    1.7f10

And Lion 10.7.2 upg. from Snow Leopard and i have exactly same problem with the installers (5.6 and 6.0). The Apple support say they don´t have problem with the istaller and i should search this forum for help!

I spent a little over an hour on the the phone with support last night.  The short story is that our issue has been given to an engineer to resolve.

The senior product specialist ended up cancelling the one time service fee for me because he agreed that this was an installer issue and not something with my system.

When they give me a solution that works, I'll post it in the forum.  Here's to hoping that it's not the default windoze solution of "hmmm, guess we'll have to reimage the drive..."

Note: the update worked om my MacBook 'MacBook6,1' and my MacPro 'MacPro1,1, but not on my MacPro 'MacPro5,1'.

All three with Lion 10.7.2 (11C74). And upgraded from Snow Leopard.

I saw above that 'anji_49' has a MacBook. Strange, it works for my MacBook.

i am having the same issue.

Macbook 13" Late 2007 model / Lion 10.7.2 upgraded from Snow Leopard upgraded from Leopard.

i tried all the above, including removing completely through terminal and nothing!

i tried installing 6.0 and 5.6 which are made for Lion and same error.

i finally was able to reinstall 5.5.3 which is made for 10.5.7 or later

funny that the Lion version installers are not working.

i hope this gets fixed soon, so we can all update with some peace of mind.

    thanks!

I just finished updating my Time Capusule with the latetest firmware using the Airport Utility v5.3 and everything worked. The only thing I notice is that once the firmware update completed...Airport Utiltiy gave me a message that it could not connect to my TimeCapsule and that I needed to restart Airport Utility.  I did that and everything worked.

For the sake of the discussion; my spces...

      Processor Speed:          2.33 GHz

      Number of Processors:          1

      Total Number of Cores:          2

      L2 Cache:          4 MB

      Memory:          3 GB

      Bus Speed:          667 MHz

Not sure but it seems that the latest installers for Airport Utility seem not to work with older systems running Loin
