Invalid leaf record count ? how to fix?

My G3 tower had some freeze today when I was in photoshop. I restarted yet I got a hold the restart button message come down and continuously do so even when I had complied several times to its request to re start!

Eventually i resorted to my OS start up disk for repair. Verify and repair through up a in red : Invalid leaf record count (it should be 3264 instead of 361).

So in verify or repair disk permissions i get to use the button and start the verification or repair to about a wee way in and then that is were it stays?

Any suggestions would be most welcome at these stage, and thank you for them in anticipation!

powerBook G4, G3 tower 800MHz 24" HPw2448hc and 23 " Hp2309m/v monitors, Mac OS X (10.4.11), Still run a Starmax clone cos it's nice!

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...

/sbin/fsck -fy

Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.

(Space between fsck AND -fy important).

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

You must repair the HD, if Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD/DVD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

Thank you for all that. I did have the installer disk yet it seemed not to be adequate so I used one from the next OS up and that worked well yet I still got the restart screen even though I could see everything was there. It came down as a curtain with the message restart &c.

So as it was, I reckoned a third agent was in stuck mode as it were.

I zapped the peramiter memory. Job done.

Took most of the day that puff.

Your send however is most useful. Thanks you!
