In Denial?

Q: Software Update Issue

We have a mac (mid 2008) and today we updates from leopward to snow leopard.

We then installed the 10.6.8 combi software update - and it told us instalation was complete and to resart. We did so however the computer screen is now blue with the little gry cog like wheel in the middle bottom, however it has been like for ten/ fifteen minutes and surely this is too long?

It does sound too long, but I'd give it a bit longer. Eventually, if it doesn't boot you'll need to press and hold the power button to do a hard shutdown. Not ideal, but you may have no choice.

Then try to start up again whilst holding down the shift key until you get a grey progress bar. Hopefully it'll 'safe boot' and run through a few checks/maintenance routines. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.

If you manage to get this far I'd suggest repairing disk permissions: Utilities>Disk Utility, click on Macintosh HD and select 'repair disk permissions'.

If you're still having the issue this article may be of interest even though you have Snow Leopard rather than Leopard.
