Jan 31, 2012 8:49 AM in response to In Denial?by Paul_31,It does sound too long, but I'd give it a bit longer. Eventually, if it doesn't boot you'll need to press and hold the power button to do a hard shutdown. Not ideal, but you may have no choice.
Then try to start up again whilst holding down the shift key until you get a grey progress bar. Hopefully it'll 'safe boot' and run through a few checks/maintenance routines. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.
If you manage to get this far I'd suggest repairing disk permissions: Utilities>Disk Utility, click on Macintosh HD and select 'repair disk permissions'.
