I had the same problem. Really annoying. Fixed it by turning off all calendar syncing with iCloud. I'm back to just manually syncing (i.e. phone attached to the computer instead of constantly trying thru wifi).
I believe this is an issue with older operating systems and Apple just hasn't been clear about the system requirements in order to properly use iCloud.
