how to mount automatically at boot time filservers volumes, like in UNIX with an NFS entry in /etc/fstab

Hello all,

Does anyone know how to mount automatically on iMac clients at boot time the volumes of a Synology DS712+ (AFP protocol enabled) fileserver, like in UNIX with an NFS entry in /etc/fstab ?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Hi

On the client workstations connect to the Share using the Connect to Server option from the Go Menu. Use the IP Address. Once the share(s) have been mounted add it/them to the Login Items section in that User's Account. You'll find this in the Accounts Preferences Pane (10.6 and earlier) or the Users & Groups Preferences Pane in 10.7.

If you tick the option to use keychain manager to remember the password the share will mount at login without any further user interaction.

If Open or Active Directory is involved you can apply an appropriate MCX mapping the share or shares to as many users you like (via a Group) which mounts the share or shares on User login.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your help. That's OK and works fine at the user's login level. My systems (2 iMacs) are configured as multiusers systems and to mount the shares at login time works fine as long as there's only one user logged on the system at a time, if someone swith users, then MAC OS X mount a second time the same share which screw up the shares of the first user. This is why I thought to mount the shares only once at boot time for all the potential users, as you would do in UNIX with an NFS mount. But at least with the current mount of the shares at login time I have a useable config.

Thanks again. 🙂 J-L
