This is EXACTLY what I've just started experiencing. No chime, but there is a noise that sounds like normal start up noise. Then the normal hiss of the fan noise. Screen is black, front lid light starts bright then immediately dims and stays steady dim. I close the lid and the light gets bright, stays steady bright, no sleep pulse. The capslock key does not go green when pressed. The speaker volume keys do not make their volume indicator sounds when pressed. The computer was working fine all morning. I closed the lid and stepped away for awhile. I came back, opened the lid and now this. Battery light under the computer is normal, computer has been plugged in all day.

I have this same issue with my Late 2011 MacBook Pro. Starts with blank screen. Fan runs fast, then stops. When you press the power button, the little bright light comes on and then dims (like it was asleep and then goes back to sleep). No CAPS lock light. No volume button sounds, and no eject button actions.

Anyone have a solution to this issue?

I had this same issue but after a new hard drive/ram install.

What solved the issue - and I hope this helps someone else who has the same problem:

1). Install new hard drive (with or without osx pre installed) or leave old one in in your case.

2). Remove all ram

3). Power on and wait 1 minute

4). Hold power button until it turns off

5). Install ram

6). Power back on

7). BOOM! It works again.

Ana_Lan , I have the same problem you described, "No chime, but there is a noise that sounds like normal start up noise. Then the normal hiss of the fan noise. Screen is black, front lid light starts bright then immediately dims and stays steady dim. I close the lid and the light gets bright, stays steady bright, no sleep pulse. The capslock key does not go green when pressed." etc, etc..

Did you ever find the solution to this problem? Or diagnose what part needs to be replaced?

Thank you! I eagerly await your reply.
