Airport Utility 6 - Transmit Power Option

Hello,

just upgraded to AU6 and I seem to miss the transmit power option that was available in AU5.

Is this option still available?

If not, how can I change it anyway (set mine to 25% and want to increase it a little bit)?

Regards,

-Patrick

How about if you're running Mountain Lion? 5.6 does not seem to want to install on that.

Unfortunately, you cannot install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Mountain Lion unless you elect to use some "unofficial" methods, which are not supported by Apple. Hopefully, Apple will come their senses and allow 5.6 to be easily installed on Mountain Lion.

Most users who want to install 5.6 on Mountain Lion use an application called Pacifist to manually extract the application so that it will run on Mountain Lion. More details in this article (which the hosts may likely remove if they see it) :

I also have a newest-generation Airport Express and I think that one can't be configured by 5.6 at all, although I'm not sure.

AirPort Utility 5.6 will flash the message that you see below when you open the application, but if you click Continue, it works fine on the "new" AirPort Express.

Thank you very much for the information, I am booted into an old Lion now and I can in fact see and control both APExp's, both the 2nd and third generation (although that one has a generic icon), with 5.6, and they each say they're at 10%. I guess that at least in terms of ethernet/wireless/routing configuration, the new Express is reasonably similar to the old Extreme -- it has a few less LAN ports, but otherwise the IP side at least is quite similar.

I actually *really like* 6.1, but really, disapparating a bunch of settings (and especially not making the Pro app mountain lion compatible), that's not cool. I don't mind them not putting the expert settings in the iOS version, heck, leave 'em out of the Windows version if you really have to. But Mac... Macs are supposed to administer & dev all those consumer devices they make now!

Edit: While I was booted into Lion from that external backup disk, I installed the 5.6 there, and after rebooting back into Mountain Lion and copying the app over to my ML Applications folder, I now have a working 5.6&6.1 setup in ML.

A bit odd that you have to move down to gain functionality, but Apple is giving us a peek at the future with 6.0....my opinion.

A peek at the future?

I don't get it? Why in the world would Apple give us new updates that are LESS functional??? I now have AU 6.2 installed. I just did updates as they came along. I haven't needed to change the transmit power or access some of the other settings in quite some time. Now that I need to, I find that I don't even have that ability anymore. Still running 10.7.5 on a 2011 MBP.

Finding and installing an older version (5.6?) of AU to gain back basic functionality to properly set up my Airport Extreme is the answer?

What sense does any of this make? Thanks for the "Updates" Apple. Maybe prior to installing there should have been a warning that stated the update will render AU helpless and our Airports into Dumb Wireless units.
