Jan 31, 2012 7:07 PM in response to mischmelby shldr2thewheel,the graphics card is soldered to the logic board and can not be replaced separately. You would need to replace the logic board in order to fix a bad graphics card.

Jan 31, 2012 8:30 PM in response to mischmelby jeremy_yllim,It unable to replace a higher graphic card because the current card is fit to the current logic board.
A better graphic card may needs a better resolution of screen, if the screen would not support a better graphic card, it may be a waste and needed a better battery life as well.
Perhaps you may enquire from the Apple Genuis for more info.

Feb 1, 2012 4:19 PM in response to shldr2thewheelby mischmel,I spoke to the genius bar and they were the ones that told me that it was most likely the graphics card. I looked up the logic board for my model of computer and it's pretty much the same price as buying a new one. I'm going to miss this huge peice of metal

Feb 1, 2012 4:50 PM in response to mischmelby Allan Jones,Actually, the flat-rate quote they gave you is a good deal and far cheaper than a new computer. It's called a "depot" repair and they send the computer to a central Apple refurbishment site and pretty much fix everything that's wrong for that flat fee, as long as there is no cosmetic damage that must be addressed )like a bent case jammign teh optical drive).
I have a late 2007 2.2G C2D MBP with Snow Leopard and it is still a very capable computer. Were the video chipset to go on mine, I know I would consier the depot repair long before I considered replacing it.
People here who have taken advantage of this service say it takes about one business week including shippoing, and there were very happy with the outcome.

Feb 1, 2012 6:22 PM in response to mischmelby Joaqun Rodrigo Garza Prez,Watch out! I 'm pretty sure there is an active trading program from apple, for MBP with nvidia 8600gt ? Was it? Well from late 2006 to early 2008, those video cards were faulty and got baked producing the symptom you have on your MBP, i got mine replaced for FREE last year by these days... Walked in on an apple authorized service cnter they took it cheked it ran the Serial number and replced the whole mobo in less than a week. It has run smoothly since then... I'll try to look up the url for the program and post back... But you might do the search faster...
Good luck!
