I want to use my MacBook Air which has Snow Leopard on it.
I am now using MBP which has Lion on it.
Can I migrate the Mac HD of the MBP (after cloning that volume with Carbon Copy Cloner) to the MacBook Air using Migration Assistant?

It is not clear exactly what you expect to gain with this process you are proposing.
IMHO you can use Migration Assistant between the MBP and the MBA but once you finish the MBA will still have Snow Leopard on it. The MBA will not have Lion on it.

If your MBP shipped with Lion you can't downgrade it, if that's what you mean..
If not, I'd be careful about using Migration Assistant unless you wipe the drive and clean install SL. Then migrate the first time you boot up, in Setup Assistant.
I want to use Snow Leopard on the MBA. That's what I've been using for some time on the MBA. It broke down and I bought a new computer which has Lion on it and I've been using it for some time. The MBA is back from repairs so I want to move the data from the new computer that has Lion on it to the MBA which has SL on it.
Someone who tried to do the same thing said that if I use Migration Assistant to migrate a backup of the Lion Mac HD onto a computer with Snow Leopard installed on it, it will change the OS of this computer to Lion.
I don't want that.
Migration Assistant won't change the OS. And, I don't believe it will work from Lion to Snow Leopard.
You have at least 3 posts in this forum for essentially the same issue.

That's correct.
You cannot go "backwards" from one major version to another (ie, Lion to Snow Leopard).
You can go "backwards" within a major version (such as 10.7.3 to 10.7.0).

Because I can't downgrade the OS from Lion to Snow Leopard, I just added the files I needed one by one, manually moving them from the HD of the MBP to an external disk and then from the external disk to the Mac HD of the MBA.
If I had just used MA to move the backup of the MBP, I would have ended up with a computer that had Lion on it, even if I had installed Snow Leopard on the MBA before the migration.

It doesn't matter now, but no, you could not have used Migration Assistant to transfer files from a Lion installation to a drive with Snow Leopard on it. It won't even attempt it.
And Migration Assistant does not transfer OSX; only apps, user accounts & data, etc.
That's its basic purpose: when you get a new Mac, with a new OS on it, it will transfer everything except OSX from the old Mac (or its backups).
I tried to tell you that would not happen in my first post to this thread. I can't figure out why you still have it in your head that MA will move the OS.
