canon camcorder

I cannot get my iMac to recognise and download video from my Canon Camcorder Legria fs22. It is not an old model about 4 years old, but is useless with this problem. other forums have identified similar problems. Help!!!

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), iOS 5.0.1, Canon Legria fs22
