I can't reorder songs on Ipod shuffle playlist

Good morning.

Check to make sure that, for your iPod shuffle playlist, iTunes shuffle is turned off. Open iTunes and look at the second icon in, in the lower left corner of the window. If it's illuminated, click it to turn it off.

Hi! It didn't help for me... I don't know what's up. I use a shuffle to run every morning... load a few podcasts and have a few songs. Until about a week ago... was able to reorder no problem. Now - doesn't work.

I did verify that shuffle was off - the icon is not illuminated (and I double checked with the pulldown menu, too).

Any other ideas?

One thing might be the podcasts - you can't reorder them. They'll always be played in the order of download. (I think that's the order.)

That's strange... I used to be able to reorder those, too. I was able to put an issue of "the onion" between CNN and NPR (just keeping it real!).

But now - can't move songs, can't move podcasts.

Odd...

They are played in that order, although it's selectable (new->old, old->new) by sorting on that column in the podcasts playlist window.

I hope they fix that... it makes sense for the SAME podcast.... but I may want to listen to CNN before whatever... regardless of when they were recorded.

That's a silly and needless limitation... but thanks for the response.

I wonder why it used to work... odd.

OH - one more thing - I am still not able to reorder SONGS, either.

You can't reorder them in the Shuffle playlist. Get them into another playlist, in the order you want and with iTunes set up properly, then drag that playlist directly into the Shuffle.

Interesting. I have the same problem. I used to be able to reorder the podcasts. I then updated the OS on the Shuffle. Actually, I forced a refresh as I was having some problems. After that, I could no longer reorder the items.

BTW, I use tow machines, and I still CAN reorder podcasts on the other machine. They are both running iTunes 6.0.4.2

I have the same problem. made a playlist today that I can't rearrange. older playlists can be rearranged.

I would like to help you guys..
But I am sorry if that doesn't work..

Connect the IPod to the computer..
Then open Itunes and click on the IPod icon in iTunes source list..

Then we could see "Name,Time, Artist, Album, Genre, My Rating, Play count and Last played..on the top header of the songs in shuffle which you see in iTunes.

Carefull guys, we will see a small toolbar to the left of Name to click without any title..
Click on it and then try reshuffling playlist..

Kindly revert back on clarifications..

I was trying to find a solution to this problem myself in this thread until I read Michael Morgan1's post about "new->old, old->new" until it hit me:

Clicking on headers like "Name", "Artist", "Last Played", etc would order the songs according to those headers. Doing that, I can't move my songs because that was the info under those headers were set.
But what about the original order I put them in? So I clicked on the only unnamed header - the first one - the only one that you don't have an option of showing or not showing.

Now I can move my songs!!!!
