I'm afraid Apple's DVD player will never support ext. blu-ray drives...

Apple does not own the license for BluRay - Sony does. And, Sony and Apple are not on the best of terms. So, without the rights to the license, Apple can't support it.

Of course, there is a lot of Mac Blu-ray Player software in the market now, like Aurora Blu-ray Player for Mac, ideer, etc. But Macgo is the first Blu-ray player software available on Mac OS X and the only one developed Mac Blu-ray Player software authorized by BDA, refers to: http://blog.macblurayplayer.com/macgo-has-signed-bd-rom2-flla-with-bda/

You are absolutely fooling no one showing up in any and all Blu-ray threads under new user accounts pushing the same software on a regular, and predictable basis.

My last post was deleted for advertising. I don't know why the post was seemed as advertising. Maybe the words were too few. So I'll try again.

I just tried the newest Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player to play a BD iso a few days ago. There was only audio and a black screen.

But with Kodi (formerly XBMC), it works fine. I suggest you to give it a try.

Perhaps you could explain. I looked all over Kodi's site and there was nothing on it that had anything to do with playback of Blu-ray disks in OS X. All references were for playing back ripped digital copies, or playing back MKV files over SMB.

    Hi Kurt,

I don't have a BD drive, so I only tried iso, zip etc.

I'm sorry that I don't know if it can play Blu-ray disks with copyright protection.

Have you tried the latest Kodi? Does it work?

    Thanks.

Nope, no need to try it. I use this free Blu-ray player. The only requirement is to provide an email address to get a one time permanent activation code. You can upgrade to a cost version with more features if you want, but don't have to. The free version does everything I need to watch Blu-ray disks on my Mac.

I notice you've posted a link to Windows software in a thread on an Apple Support Communities site entitled 'how do i play a blu ray disc on my mac'? Am I right in thinking that you have both the Mac and Windows OS on your computer?

I do have Windows 7 installed on a Boot Camp partition, but very rarely use it. Mainly, it was just a goof.

Same company, Mac version of the free Blu-ray playback software. Sorry for the confusion.

I had the Aurora player installed and discovered that there was a LOT of network traffic when it magically and repeatedly launched itself for no apparent reason. After narrowing it down to that app I deleted it and excess network traffic ceased. Aurora is just one of the several names that same software goes by. I don't know what they are doing but it didn't feel right.

Supposedly (from what I read in an article a couple of years ago), the Blu-ray playback software verifies the authenticity of a commercial Blu-ray disk to allow it to play. That should take less than 30 seconds though, so continual activity by Aurora doesn't make sense.

The free player I linked to has been changed. It no longer plays Blu-ray at full resolution, but instead dumbs it down to a coarser version. You have to get the paid version if your want to watch 1080 video actually at 1080.

The free VLC Player has instructions how to get it to play back Blu-ray (you download a couple of free pieces and place them in specific places on your drive). It works great. Full resolution 1080 video. Bad part is there's no control over some of the things it does. I tested a few Blu-ray disks I had with it. Tangled played back in English, but all text was in Spanish. Wall-E insisted in playing back the movie with the director commentary overlaid.
