spotlight always indexing

I've tried the sudo command mentioned in another thread, and also using the Privacy option in Sys Prefs, to no avail.

Any help on stopping Spolight from indexing? It's been doing it for about three days.

Cheers.

Running this command in Terminal might show you where it's getting hung up. You will need to give your admin pword, which won't appear in any form when you type it in. You'll get time stamps.

sudo fs_usage -f filesys mds mdworker mdimport

Use Control-C to stop the output, then enter "exit."

I see no useful info from that. Did you check your disks as I suggested?

Also another think you can try is to place all your drives (assuming you have more thant one in the Spotlight's Privacy section. Is it indexing after that? Shouldn't be. And if it isn't start taking the drives out of Privacy one at a time (i.e., let it fully index each drive until spotlight goes quiet again) until you find the drive that may be hanging up its indexing. At least that way you can narrow it down to a single drive.

As I said above, I'd put my mac HD in Privacy and that didn't work.

FWIW, I run Repair Permissions daily and had Verified the disk, and it reported OK. It's a mac - one drive – and my external HDs weren't being indexed.

Update: after installing this week's Apple updates, the issue has gone. I'll keep this thread open for solutions to the issue, and if it recurs for me.

I have the same problem. I have a laptop bought in June 2011. When I installed the Mac OS X Lion, last update, it began to index my whole drive for days.

The completion bar of spotlight gets around 5% and then reiniciates again the indexing ("Recaulculating INdexing time...").

I ran the command sudo fs_usage -f filesys mds mdworker mdimport and this is the outuput. It seems that it reinitiates because of the crash or something... "md64 crash state". Any ideas ?

If I read correctly, I have the same problem. Spotlight is indexing all the time, it doesn't stop and it seems that it is because it reinitiates the indexing every time that reaches 5% indexing (more or less).

I tried the same tricks: delete the cache, reinitiating the spotlight indexing, putting my hard drive in the Privacy tap in the Spotlight preference panel, then taking it out.

How did you solve your problem ?

spotlight always indexing
