    Hi there - did you do a factory default reset - you know, switch off, pin in the reset hole and then switch on again? I was just wondering if doing this is why some have rolled back ok and others not?

    For some the factory default reset did work,

    For me it didn't. Worth a try though.

    First gen 802.11n AirPort/Time Capsule.  All Mac network with numerous machines running OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  AirPort Utility 5.5.3. Updated AirPort firmware to 7.6.1 through software update and local wireless network went from snappy to a crawl.  Rebooted everything, checked for changes in network settings, none noted.  Pretty sure of cause and effect as nothing else was done at the time.


    Do you think I should try to roll back to 7.6?

    My update from 7.5.2 to 7.6.1 was a disaster. I've spent hours restoring and restarting the thing. Right now 7.6.1 and even 7.5.2 are completely broken. 7.6 is the only one that works.

    I can confirm that rollback here to 7.5.2 has restored previous functionality, it did require systematic reset to factory defaults (hard reset) on both Airport Express and Airport Extreme (in that order) after rollback for any changes to be seen. One symptom of 7.6.1 was Macbook signal bars only getting to 2 or 3 - this was right back up to full bars after successful reset.  Also iOS devices connected instantly, airport became functional from iOS devices once again and normal service was resumed - it would be good to keep each other updated when 7.6.2 comes out and some (very) brave soul decides to install it! :-)

    Experienced the same performance hit after upgrading to 7.6.1.  I refused to do any hard resets on anything, and after suffering with download speeds of .4 to .7 mbps, I downgraded the firmware to 7.5.2 and am back to 14 mbps, a 20-30x speed improvement.  That's all it took for me.

    I go into the AirPort Utility, click on "Manual Setup", then hover over and click on the "Version" tag (first image), which then provides the ability to downgrade (second image)

    When I Did this update I lost everything and i couldn't log in or get a responmse, and since i had set it up to be "private" i couldn't scan for it to see what the name had changed to if at all. I  finally had to do a hard reset back to default factory settings and start over from scratch but since then everything has functioned as it always has. One short note though, When it first labotomized itself it was late and I did yank the cord and leave it unplugged overnight, more out of frustration, than anything else, then I did the ball point pen thing as it powered up the next afternoon. I don't know if that specifically helped or not because at the time it was only my 2nd or third update and it's done the same brain dead thing twice now after an update. I just reset it and set  everything up from scratch and it just works again. I didn't know any better, had no idea it was an issue and honestly thought it was supposed to happen that way. My bad

    Exact same problem. I cannot connect to one of my Airport Express units; instead the message "An unexpected error occurred" always popped up. I bought two brand new AirportExpress units and had the same error message. So one Extreme and two Express units are working; while one old Express unit and two Express units right out of the box will not work.


    How did you revert to the old firmware?

    I wish it was that simple.  I've always had this setting, yet every wake up requires a trip to network>hunt for network. I gave up.  OSX10.6.8, older 13" Macbook 1.1 utility 5.5.3 v 6.3 Carlo TD wrote:

If you go to System Prefences and Network, choose your network; put a check mark in the box that says "Show Wifi status in menu bar," next click the advanced buton, Under Preferred Networks, minus out of all the networks, and put a check mark where it says "remember networks this computer has joined."


    It is that simple. If you have trouble, then you just select the wifi symbol that looks like a tornado (that you now have) located next to the time on the menu bar.

    Since my Dlink router died, I got the latest gen AEB.  Started off with 7.6.1 firmware and I could not stream Crunchyroll, Netflix, & other streaming services on iPad and other iOS devices.  So after finding ways to revert to 7.5, all the problems seems to have gone away.  I'm glad it's just not my AEB.  Anybody know if this issue is getting looked at?
