No guarantees, of course. But the Combo update worked for me and probably the majority of people with issues.

Combo is a solution, but I have some problems still where I need to repair windows in email and safari. And some stuff loads slow now. Even after running Utilities repair program on HD. Apple made a serious mistake.

Combo Update is your best choice. Make sure you back up before you apply it.

For those unaware of how OSX Works. After a System update, OSX reindexs the file system ( Spotlight )

or MDS activity in Activity monitor under CPU. Indexing is CPU intensive and will take 30min or so to complete.

In the meantime, if you jump right into a productlivity regime you will notice a slowdown in tasks until the System completes indexing. That's why some users use a utlitltiy such as iStat, which loads in the menue bar and provides disk, CPU and network information.

Have you restored/reinstalled Lion? Say from the recovery partition or from a time machine backup?

Do that first. Make sure you're up and running with 10.7.2.

Then download the combo update again from this source: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484

And try again. Make sure you've deleted any previous 10.7.3 updates you've downloaded prior to this attempt.

    Good luck!

If you do use the Recovery partition, it will now download the latest version from MAS and so you will have 10.7.3 installed.

BTW I have updated using the combo and also done an erase/install using the MAS download, both with no problem.

Unless you really need this update for some reason, I would hold off for a week or two.  From what I can tell there are no new features to speak of, just fixes and additonal language support.

One of my 15" MB Pros updated through software update just fine.  The other encountered this problem and was a serious pain to fix.  Not as bad as actually having to do a restore from Time Machine, put painful enough to wish I had waited a few days to see if a problem like this surfaced that impacted more than just a handful of users.

The combo update I downloaded from the Apple support site (referenced in this discussion thread) did fix the 15" MB Pro that was 'bricked' because of this issue.

So if you must upgrade now, download the full combo updater for your best shot at success.

I downloaded the combo update from 10.7.2 and installed. Upon reboot to finish install it booted up with the same issue. Can't open any apps, XXX issue. Thanks for trying to help.

I am also have this annoying experience.

My Mac is a Pro 15" from 2010. I can't even get into System or Finder and, worst, time machine.

    Nothing works.

Huh? I restored from time machine backup but still on 10.7.2. Terse comments are justified in this situation.
