Disk Utility Permissions issues mean nothing. What are you trying to do? Be specific!

Disk utility Permissions mean quite a lot actually.

If a file has the wrong atributes set, the OS will NOT be able to read that file.

What if it's a crucial system file that been denied access to?

I do believe that they are trying to repair the permissions on the system volume

This is the just of the Repair disk permission issues it listed when I ran Repair disk Permissions:

user differs on"usr/share/collabd/webauthd" should be 94 user is 221

Group - Same thing

Mutiple User and group differs

Perfimissions Differ on "Library/Jave"; shoube drwxr-xr-x theyr are drwarwxr-x

multiple permissions differ on different system/library....

Got a few more group differes to, long list of permissions differ.

Going to restart now and see what happens.

The point is be specific. He said his system is hosed but he can access DU. You can run DU a hundred time and still show premissions issues.

What is the Problem you are trying to solve? DU can solve some issues but not all. What are you trying to do?

That didn't help anything. Anything I try to run I get "xxxxQuit unexpectedly" and all the buttons are covered in the CUI CUI ???

I can get into the OS But the only thing that will work is shutdown, anything else gives the above. I am not on the MBP on the web, using a windows desktop.

Nothing new here. This is why I recommend  cloned external backups. Target disk mode is another example of this.

Has anyone reading this used Software Update to update to 10.7.3 THIS MORNING (Friday) and do you have the problems described in this thread?

The 10.7.3 update is still showing up in Software Update for my 2011 MacBook Air.  There's no way I would use it (as compared to the standalone combo updater) but I'm wondering why it's still available in Software Update unless Apple has quietly fixed it.

Who cares? Just use the Combo-Updater. Why apply an incremental update, which may conflict with user preferences and corruptions in the current system, when a complete integrated update is available? Apple incremental updates is a well worn path. Take updates seriously, prepare with comprehensive bootable backups and apply the combo-updater when you feel compelled to update.

AS I SAID PLAINLY--I WOULDN'T USE SOFTWARE UPDATE.

Even with the Comand R you can't connect to internet?
