Feb 3, 2012 8:20 AM in response to Tom Dignamby Faber92,It is Apple's fault, surely it is not my fault or any other user's fault. It is inacceptable that using software update (the official update tool) my system results unusable. They MUST find an easy solution, not all people are computer genius.
Think at least 10 times before speaking, please.
Sorry for any mistake, I'm not american.

Feb 3, 2012 8:28 AM in response to Faber92by Tom Dignam,No, it's never the Users fault. I will say one thing. It's Apples fault for successfully creating the illusion operatng systems are an 100% guarantee. "Most" is not 100%, so take that for what's worth. There are steps for a User to learn which would bring one closer to 100%. But thats asking a lot, so we'll settle for the least common denominator "most".

Feb 3, 2012 8:30 AM in response to Faber92by echols85,I don't like getting involved in these discussions typically, but this is a pretty bad foul up on Apple's part. I had the issue as well, and I could even launch a web browser to go download the combo update after running 'Software Update'. At that point, my only real option was restoring from a Time Machine backup, which cost me quite a bit of time and I was working towards a deadline.
There absolutely is the expectation that software delivery through Software Update be vetted prior to posting and distribution, especially if it's causing such extremely deblitating results such as not being able to launch applications and causing the finder to crash and log out (as happened to me in addition to the CUI errors).
I'll be holding off even on the combo updater at this point until there is some notification and acknowledgement from Apple of the issue. It will be nice to know, once they have gathered all the crash logs, what subset of users and/or systems are actually experiencing these issues. I for one am on a 17" 2011 MBP and was running 10.7.2.

There is the absolute expectation you have a bootable clone of your working system for mission critical systems. I have had no issues updatng my computers. You are wise to take heed of issues relating to updates. Which is why you have a cloned backup of your system when you do update, published fix or not.

Feb 3, 2012 8:53 AM in response to Tom Dignamby Faber92,I totally agree with you that everybody should have a copy of the OS in order to be able to solve any kind of unpredictable problem.
Anyway a huge and experienced company like Apple should not make such big mistakes, causing problems to many users. I believe it's their duty to inform us about the situation and about any kind of (official) fix.
If it was my fault I would behave that way.

Feb 3, 2012 9:05 AM in response to albert421by parystec,Hi All,
After installing 10.7.3 update yesterday I find that my xcode is no longer working. I crashed after exhibiting strange behaviour and I have a error window which says "Restore Windows The application “Xcode” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?". I phoned apple support who could offer no help other than there are problems with the 10.7.3 update and I should look on the forums , So here I am looking ? Any help here would be great !!

Feb 3, 2012 9:17 AM in response to albert421by Walter Kozlov,16 pages of posts (who knows how many more coming?) filled with "me too" and Apple bashing. Only a handful of useful suggestions. Anyone complaining of wasted time restoring and reinstalling, consider how much time is wasted reading thru all the non-productive posts. At risk of contributing to the waste of time I will vent and move on with my life.
- Anyone installing ANY OS update on a live production machine is foolish. Always use a test computer to experinent. If you dont have a test computer, simply wait for others with more resources to work thru the issues. - Users diving head-first into a pool with no water, is NOT Apple's fault
- Not having a backup is also NOT Apple's fault.
- No OS developer can possibly consider and trap for ALL the variants and all combinations of variants of 3rd party and legacy softwares installed on users systems. Nor can they consider any post installation tweaks that were never intended by the developer. We have to humbly apprecierate the effots both Apple and MS put into this, and be grateful that things like this happen very rarely.
- Any recollection of how many time s Win ServicePacks / daily patches caused a complete meltdown? Lot more than Apple, fo certain. The grass is greener on the other side only until your step over. If you think Other OS is better, switch, and stop complaining.
I knbow, by posting the above, then following with my closing statement I'm being hypocritical, but here it goes:
Lets stop all unnecessary bashing and comentary, and post suggestions that lead to helping each other fix the issue.

Feb 3, 2012 9:11 AM in response to Faber92by Tom Dignam,What mistake did Apple make? No company can guarantee 100% compliance. I have no issues with this current update. This forum serves as a canary in the mine. It's an Apple support forum on which you are free to learn and and within limits rant. Prudent, inexperienced Users would do well to wait untill the smoke clears. Meanwhile there is much to learn about the process. I was secure in the fact I was prepared in the event of some misque. Cloned backup of existing working HD.

Feb 3, 2012 9:23 AM in response to Tom Dignamby Faber92,In fact I haven't yet updated because I don't currently have any backup (my old external hard disk broke down few days ago and I should make my mind up to go to buy a new one). I repeat I agree with you and I know there's always the possibility of some huge problem, but I also believe that they should have realized about this problem before releasing it or at least they should have removed the update from servers until the cause was found.
Probably I'm expecting too much.
