Q: CUI CUI CUI error 10.7.3 all apps crashes

resolved the issue

Run repair permissions and create a cloned backup.

Recovery Partition which downloads from the Apple servers... just to clarify.

My safari doesnt work annymore.

When i open safari i got a white page and he stays searching.

Everything other works fine.

Mail Msn.

No i download chrome thats works also.

I installed the combo but safari doesnt works.

Can some one help me ?

Well Im back up and so far so good. Had reinstall Java, but seems to be working and didn't loose anything. Hey only took half a day....

That's what he told me. They are all over this problem trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I'm assuming the software update version now rewrites the folder that is causing the problem. Let me try and clear up my statement. They know what folder is messed up that causes the cui issue. But they don't know what third party program is corrupting it. The combo update rewrites the folder and files that have been corrupted and that's why combo updates aren't affected and are fixing the problem.

Aside from TimeMachine, I run weekly backup sets to a Drobo. Thursday I have Carbon Copy Cloner set to Clone to a drive I keep off-site and Friday a clone runs that I keep handy in case the HD goes or something catastrophic happens.

A backup is essential (it's never IF your drive will fail but WHEN) and if you can afford it (1 & 2 TB drives are relatively inexpensive these days and CCC is free) make a bootable clone in case something like this or a drive crash happens.

However, I too agree that something went wrong with this update.  In all the years I've owned Apple computers (since 1980) this is the first time I can recall something going this far awry.  Fortunately, while inconvenient it was still fairly easy to correct and I don't think too many people actually lost data.

I mounted the drive as said in Disk Utility.

I typed 'installer -pkg /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ 10.7.3\ Update\ Combo/MacOSXUpdCombo10.7.3.pkg -target /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD'

Though...it said  'Error the Package path speciafied was invalid'. I think it might be because I installed Lion on my Crucial M4 SSD intern hardrive.

So my question is 'what should be typed in termnal?'

Make sure you have the COMBO downloaded to your device. Also make sure it's the correct one. If it's just regluar lion download this http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484

I kept having a problem as well and it was because I wasn't using the actual combo version.

Just got a call from Apple Care, Which was gathering information for Engineering they called me investigating the issues I had. Sent screen shots I had taken and other info to them.

They are on top of what happened and working hard to figure it out!

Is there any reason you aren't just using the recovery partition? That may have happened had cloned your drive instead of installed Lion directly. But the recovery partition is easy.

Of if you have access to another mac, that's your best bet.

Well since you decided to start out by blasting me when all I have done is write two post on this site on how I managed to solve this without having to explain to non-UNIX types how to deal with terminal (and the one reply to Tom agreeing with his assertion that if what's on your drive is important to you then have a clone of it in case something like this happens), I'd suggest you try the boot from Recovery Partition (if you have that available on your SSD) and try the Re-Install Lion option.  If you choose the terminal option or are not able to boot to the recovery partition then keep in mind the path to your Combo Update image is going to be case and space sensitive - well, at least space sensitive.  I think the method you are trying to use is also covered in detailed steps near the start of this thread. Probably in the first four pages of the thread.
