Feb 3, 2012 12:29 PM in response to albert421by pcolvin15,The only proper, and well documented, way to install a major update pack since day 1, is not to do it from software update. You should always install it after downloading the combo updater and follow the procedure below. This will greatly reduce, or eliminate, chances for problems:
Download the combo updater and follow the following method:
1. Run disk utility and do a verify disk, and if clean, a repair permissions.
2. reboot the machine
3. apply the combo update
4. after reboot, rerun disk utility and repeat verify disk and repair permissions.
5. reboot
6. run software update and apply any other patches.
If you decide to take the chance and run the software update package, do that at step 3 (instead of the combo update).

Feb 3, 2012 1:24 PM in response to pqliorby boyfromoz,It's a bit disappointing that Apple and those who worked on it can but out a broken update through software update they admit it on the Macupdate site and say the fix is Combo update which luckily I always use. But the fix they give at the moment is to put the combo o er the update which doesn't help anybody who cannot launch any programs to download it. It is a mess from Apple and something that simply shouldn't happen these days.

Feb 3, 2012 1:26 PM in response to albert421by albert421,I feel like Mac OS X Lion is very unstable, it froze on me all the time and it will not shutdown, just froze in the shutdown screen. I did try the combo update which it did work. Have not see anything improve yet. Hope apple can address some of the froze issues.

Feb 3, 2012 1:27 PM in response to pqliorby pqlior,Here's what worked for me: (was frozen after installing COMBO update)
Start in recovery mode (Cmd+R after chime)
Repair disk (in disk utility) then repair permissions.
Restart.
Things seem alright now... -
Feb 3, 2012 1:30 PM in response to albert421by vea1083,I can confirm that there are three (or four) ways to avoid this error:
- Opt to install the Combo Update rather than the Software Update version or delta.
- Download the full OSX Lion Installer from the Mac App Store, and create a bootable USB, Portable HDD, or DVD with the full installer and perform a clean install of Mac OS X Lion (which includes v10.7.3 by default).
- Restore from TimeMachine back up via the Recovery HD.
- Not installing the Mac OS X 10.7.3 update until Apple addresses the issue.
I did the 2nd option as I wanted to refresh my MacBook's intallation of OSX Lion and it has worked flawlessly for the first two hours of the install. I will continue to do testing to see what happens. However there are a few things that I noticed after installing 10.7.3 on my Mac:
- Safari 5.1.3 is a lot more faster than the previous version and it seems more stable.
- The overall feeling of the OS seems to be more responsive.
- HDD footprint increased by 200 megabytes, possibly due to the security updates and new languages.
That's all I have to report for now.

Feb 3, 2012 1:28 PM in response to boyfromozby Tom Dignam,Restart >Command R will bring you to restore. Apple will then restore your system with 10.7.3
