How to sync icloud with addressbook

I have my Addressbook on my main Mac and it has Contacts "On my Mac" and has ALL and some groups that are also populated. On iCloud there are no contacts at all = I finally exported the AB to a vCard and imported it to iCloud and it now has all the contacts but none of the groups = I want the iCloud contacts to mirror those on my Mac.

I did run a Sync from the menu bar. I quit and reopened the addressbook. But no true mirroring.

MacPro, MBPro, MBAir & Aperture3, Mac OS X (10.7.2), iPad and iPhone4

Thanks much = I went thru the steps and all was fine but at the end they have you do some turning on and off of iCloud and AB -= doing that seemed to do the trick. Now the contacts are on iCloud AND in my AB = thanks so much.
