"Now" always returns Jan 1 of current year

When manually entering data into a Numbers field with the type defined as Date/Time and Hour part selected and you select "NOW", you get the current time, but the date part is always Jan 1 of the current year.

Is there a way when selecting Now for it to automatically use the current date, not Jan 1 (don't want to manually key in the date each time). I use formulas to calculate time diff and it will not work correctly when you cross days.
