Q: iphoto11 with Corrupt Library

Hi Everyone,

For the 2nd time in the 7 yeears of using iphoto I found that my library got catastrophically corrupted. No worry, as a backup freak I restored my library and am back up and running.

However I would like to find out why.

I narrowed the corruption down to a 2 hour window. Within that window iphoto was closed. However I did have two crashes in apples motion application (I was creating a title sequence for a movie in FCPx)

Has anyone else found issues with motion currupting the iphoto library?

One other thing.. my folders have vanished in iphoto???

Not a huge deal as the original photos are still present? this maybe totally unrelated to by library crash however I'd really like to hear of anyone else seeing this?. Maybe a setting that hides my folders? :-).. I dont know

Thanks,

Steve

I had the same problem . It seamed to have happened after I uploaded a video slide show to face book , There were issues about me having permission to use the song . I filed a protest but it took me about a week before I could get them to reconize my electronic signature . After I got it posted is when I noticed my Iphoto running to slow to even use .

I ran a disk utilities scan and both my aperture and iphoto were corrupted . After downloading a software update to aperture it started working again , All my photos are in Aperture along with the metadata , but iphoto won't even let me open it . IPHOTO CAN'T BE OPENED BECAUSE IT IS CORRUPTED OR INCOMPLETE . .

So do I have to uninstall iphoto and start over ????

        Thanks

    You need to re-install iPhoto.

    To re-install iPhoto

    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)

2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.

2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type

    /var/db/receipts/

    2c: on 10.7 they're at

    /private/var/db/receipts

A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.

    3. Re-install.

If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.

If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.

If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.
