Q: 10.7.3 no wifi connection after wakeup

Since 10.7.3 update, I have to manually reconnect to my WiFi network at every Wakeup from sleep.

It  WILL  try to connect by itself, but it will quit trying after 6-8 seconds.

The WiFi icon in the menu bar will then remain gray until I click on it and manually choose my WiFi network.

It  DOES  reconnect automatically upon Restart, though.

My WiFi network comes from a third generation Time Capsule, with the most recent updates applied.

Had no such problem yesterday in 10.7.2.

I had the same problem on my 2011 iMac i5 after updating to 10.7.3 but i was able to solve it by deselecting the option "Ask to join new networks" and checking  "Require Administrator Authorisation to: Change Networks" (in advanced Wi-Fi Setup) .

I don´t know which one of these did the trick but up to now it works for me.

Does NOT work for me - since yesterday I am having to turn WiFi off and on two times to regain the connection after waking from sleep UNLESS I use the power button.

    Found out some strange behavior.

    1. set me iMac to sleep

    2. wake it up with tap on the trackpad

    3. wi-fi connection is lost

-- without doing anything at the wi-fi settings--

    4. set me iMac to sleep, again

    5. wake it up with power button

--> SUPRISE: wi-fi connection is here!!!!

Power button workaround has been posted several times in this thread. It's the best and easiest until Apple fixes the bug.

Power button works for me also.... I was on the phone with AppleCare and we were not able to fix the problem. This basially seems to be an "Engineering" problem that I guess they know about. So, we will have to wait for a fix for the "sleep mode connectivity" problem in another update

I would like to see a video of this (of what your doing to the power button.) The power button is only for turning the computer on or quickly going to a menu that gives the choices of either "shuts down","sleep", or "restart."

Have you (meaning everyone that is using the "power button") done exactly what I sugested in my earlier post? It does not involve the power button, but it was a legitmate fix. look back at it.

    Hi Carlo,

You were noting that The power button is only for turning the computer on or quickly going to a menu that gives the choices of either "shuts down","sleep", or "restart."  That's what I thought too, but the tiny white "manual" that Apple provided with my iMac lists:  Press the power button on the back of your iMac as one of the ways to wake it from sleep.  I put the computer to sleep manually by using the dropdown menu under the Apple icon, then pressed the power button.  I was afraid it might turn my computer off or restart it, but it just woke it up (right where it was when I put it to sleep) and it connected to my wifi within about 20 seconds.

I know your earlier fix is marked as the correct response, so it's obviously a good one.  For myself, I don't have Time Capsule (I just use an external drive for the backups and have an AT&T router/modem).  You obviously know what you're doing, but I'm a nervous wreck when I'm doing anything remotely technical with my computer, so the power-button wakeup is a nice easy workaround for me until Apple gets this problem fixed.  (Although it is hard to remember to wake it up that way; I'm so used to using the mouse or the keyboard.)

Your original fix is probably better and more permanent, but this workaround does get my computer connected to wifi everytime (so far, at least).

Do you have a little thumb drive?  (preferably more than 1 Gb.) Stick it in the computer. Go to the Utility folder. Click the Recovery Disk Assistant. If you dont see it you could down load it from here . When that is done, restart  the computer holding down the option key. And click Reinstall Lion from Apple Server. I am online. My email is in my profile. You can ichat with me.

I just talked to AppleCare again trying to nail this down... Basically, the second rep I talked to said that this is a known issue and that "Engineering" is fully aware of the problem.  I also do not have a Time Capsule and I tried the router/modem reset which did not work:(  I am kindof upset that I updated to 10.7.3 because now I have problem.  I also have been using the "power button" to wake up the machine which works great.  Although, as the previous poster stated, I am used to just hitting the mouse in order to wake it up which now does not work as it should.  I guess we will all have to wait for a software update... who knows when that will be as they just brought out this one..... UGH!!!!!
