If you're buying it second hand, there is no good way to tell. Phones sold by olleh are carrier locked and can NOT be unlocked. Phones sold by SK Telecom are not locked.

All iPhones sold in India from legitimate sources are unlocked. In addition, the warranty is NOT international.

Do yourself a favor. Don't do it. You're asking for trouble.

If you're smart, you'll listen to KiltedTim's advice. There are only two ways to obtain an officially unlocked iPhone: 1. Directly from Apple, or 2. From a carrier that sells officially unlocked iPhones or provides official unlocking. If you purchase from anywhere else, you're relying on the veracity of the seller. Unfortunately, many, if not most, of these phones are hacked. It's your money, do what you want.

The phone is hacked more than likely. These forums are overflowing with posting from individuals in India who purchased iPhones abroad and are now stuck with phones that will not work.

If the price is too good to be true, then it is. Something is wrong with the deal. Don't do it. And if you do, don't come back here asking for help when it doesn't work in India.
