10.0.3 DISASTEROUS

System -

Fastest MCP one can buy (with extra 2.5gz processor model 8gb ram 1.7core) Lacie THUNDERBOLT drives. 10.7.3 OS.

10.0.2 ran "relatively" fine. NOTHING changed except upgrading to 10.0.3

Re-renders everything everytime I restart the program - Even though it rendered to 100% on last shutdown.

And when it is rendering - it does it SLOWER than the last version 10.0.2!

Playback stutters. Beach ball is more present than 10.0.2 !

Titling of previous projects is messed up - baslines and tracking are changed!

To test - I reinstalled the previous version 10.0.2 and reloaded in those previous projects. All runs smoothly.

Reinstalled the 10.0.3 again - EVERYTHING THE SAME - and same issues!

WHO CARES ABOUT ALL THE NEW "FEATURES" WHEN IT DESTROYS MONTHS OF PREVIOUS WORK, AND EVERYTHING IS EVEN SLOWER THAN BEFORE??? Its so frustrating to read reviews by magazines etc who do not lay down feature length, complex movies and only talk about all the "great new features" and how performance is "improved" simply because they read that it SHOULD be improved!

Well it isnt - its WORSE! Doesnt Apple actually test things before releasing it ? Where has the trust gone???

And I have the most pimped out (portable) system one can get. Pity on those with less endowed systems!

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND ANGRY!

Tom, I will try to do this as soon as I get a chance. Obviously need to find a simple project with few titles.

In one test this morning, I did find that with a complex 30 sec commercial the renders held even for the complex Motion effects - except where a title had been applied over the motion template effect. Same throughtout the commercial. Only places within commercial requiring re-rendering was specific to titles, even those frames with simple backgorunds but text overlaid.

Montster - Did both the PRAM and SMC (in that order) resets (as described in Apple support to do them in that order) and I am still listening to that doggone fan running. There just HAS to be something more to this since the fan NEVER ran (well OK, maybe once or twice in the last 2 years) before and now it WON'T STOP!!!!

Could this possibly be related to my non-conforming graphics card?

(if only innodufus were here to help with some sage advice - all my troubles would vanish!) 😉

Interesting. Duplicated a project with text that had the problem. Deleted all text/titles. Re-rendered. Closed and opened. No rendering required.

Added a newly created lower 3rd from newest Motion and a simple text title from older verion of Motion. Rendered, quit. Upon opening, the lower 3rd created in updated Motion did not require rendering, but very simple title from prior version of Motion did require rendering.

Took the project where I had stripped the old titles, added new titles, renderd. Everything held fine.

Went to an old project (pre 10.0.3), copied an offending title that required repeated rendering, pasted in working project. That title now requires rendering every time you quit/restart. The other titles added new do not. This is working with an old project file, but all new titles (except the copied/pasted one just added).

Appears that the problem lies with conversion of the older (pre 10.0.3) Motion-based title files.

REALLY hate to think of having to redo all titles just to salvage numerous projects.

Ok I tried something different. Actually there were some users who were reporting similar problems prior to this update. I was reading here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3284643?start=15&tstart=0 The problem with this user was an external hard drive, but the behavior was similar.

I loaded my project that was giving me problems and let it render completely.

Then I created a dummy 8 second video. Rendered it. Without closing the program, I loaded my original project back into timeline (the one causing problems) and it loaded with everything already rendered. I then loaded the dummy video. I closed FCPX and reopened it, expecting the dummy video to be in timeline. Upon loading it showed up in the timeline, then FCPX dumped it and automatically loaded my original project (the one giving me problems) and it went off re-rendering again.

Sorry for my poor grammar, when your in a rush, you just type along and really do not read what you write. Hope the SMC Fan control has fix the problem, I know it has for me, I was getting some rev up HD fan on my iMac, once I put SMC Fan control it stop. I think its probably because it gets some electric static, or something, fires up for no apparent reason, or probably there is no electrical current going to the sensor and it fires up the fan full blast. Istat pro would show 0 revs when the hd fan would be at full blast; so I decide to test sms fan control, it has been working with no problem...

Thanks for the update Switch. How exactly are you using SMC Fan control? Do you set the speed of the fans to a higher rate in order to minimze the heat-up of the system or what? What still really boggles my mind is that my system fan NEVER ran like this before. It SEEMED like it was a RAM issue but even now after I have reverted back to my original 6G's of RAM set-up the fan is STILL kicking in! There has to be something else not working properly in order for this to suddenly change so abruptly.

Andy...

As strange as this sounds...

Pull your Mac apart, blow out any dust, if you have a mini-vac vacuum the inside, maybe even reseat the RAM. Oddly, the running fan problem can happen just from not getting the Macs insides not put back together properly.

Make sure all the panels are aligned.

Use a static discharge wrist strap if you have one, or keep one hand holding the case.
