late 2006 macbook 1TB SATA II?

i have a late 2006 macbook white body with the standard Hard drive i just need to know if i could use a SATA II 1TB in it as wikipedia says its only compatible up to 500GB not sure if its right and cant find any other information about it. any advice is welcome but i know it needs to be 2.5 inch etc already just wondering if it cant take it why and what consequences there may be.

^as mentioned wiki link if its wrong I'd suggest rectifying it for the next guy/girl.

also if it matters i've put in 4 gig of RAM (2 x 2 gig sticks - runs as 3.5 gig.)
