Q: 10.7.3 - late 2011 iMac - update broke returning from sleep and connecting to wi-fi...

Installed the update and what wasn't a problem is now a problem.

The computer will not connect to wifi without me telling it to after coming out of sleep.  Was not an issue with 10.7.2.

Yeah I prob have to re run the client combo. I already deleted one of the bands from the airport settings and left only one. The computer still wasnt connecting automatically. Only 3.5 hours left at work and then I can try it!

OK so after I got home from work, I opened my MacBook and woke it from sleep, and it connected automatically. Awesome! I then re-installed the 10.7.3 Client Combo on my iMac and upon startup it connected automatically, and I just put it to sleep and when I woke it up it connected! Nice! I am now leaving it on the same band and not changing anything. Hopefully this stays ok until Apple gives us a PERMANENT fix!! Gonna put it to sleep again real quick just to test.

***OK so I put my iMac to sleep for about 5 minutes and just woke it up and it connected automatically. Cool! Again hopefully it STAYS that way!

Can someone please explain what "Client Combo" is. I know that there is a Software Update which took me from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3, however, I am unware of what a client combo is or where to look for it. Thanks.

I'm not sure what Client Combo actually means, but here is where you can get it:

OK, so I just put my iMac to sleep again 15 minutes or so after my last post. It WONT connect automatically anymore!!!! This IS SO ANNOYING!! What the **** did I spend $1,500.00 for!!??? To have a machine with a faulty OS? AWESOME!!

Hmm, that link is strange. When I click on it, it changes to this:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484?viewlocale=null&locale=null

And takes me to a "null" page.

That's odd. I am on my iPad and clicked the link you posted and it brought me to the correct page.

Weird--I just clicked on it again, and got the same result ("Null"). Let me bring up this page on my iPhone and see what happens. I'll report back.

Well if that isn't the strangest thing. I clicked on your link on my iPhone, and it went to the correct page. But when I click on that link using my iMac, it goes to the "null" URL that I listed above.

How in the heck does THAT happen? I've never run into that before.

Here is a picture of what Safari gives me when I click on that link from my iMac:

Make sure your wifi connection is on first then click the link.

Same thing with me too. Bought my iMac a week after Lion came out. Apple store actually put Lion on my iMac in the store. Never had a problem with reconnecting to wifi after sleep.....until this update. Now I have to turn off wifi on the mac and then turn it on and it sees it.  All I have to say is whisky, tango, foxtrot! kevin

It would appear the 10.7.3 update fixed problems for some, but caused problems for others.

Here are some things to try that may alleviate it, in order of increasing inconvenience:

    1. Try creating a new, temporary user account. Log in under that account to see if its behavior is any different. If it is then it will provide a clue toward resolving the problem. Delete the temporary account when you are finished with it.

    2. Go to System Preferences > Network. Click the lock to authenticate, if necessary. Then click the gear icon under the network interfaces like so:

    Screen Shot 2012-02-02 at 1.14.31 AM.png

Whatever service order you have set, drag Wi-Fi either to the top (assuming it's not already there) or away from the top if it was already there. Click OK and then Apply. Sleep the system then wake it again to observe any changes.

    3. Click Wi-Fi in the above then click Advanced. Select all the networks your computer has ever joined and delete them with the "-" button. OK then Apply again. Select your network under the AirPort icon to re-join it. Sleep and wake again to see if that did anything.

    4. If you have not done so already download and install the 10.7.3 Combo updater. It is a more comprehensive installer than the one available using Software Update, and may fix some problems.

You may have done some or all of these already but perhaps there is something you have not thought of. If nothing helps we may just have to wait a bit longer for Apple to release a fix.

    John---

This is a bit off-topic, but I would love to know how you created that screen shot. I know how to take screen shots by either using "Grab" or by using "shift + cmnd + 3 (or 4)", but I don't know how to get a shot while you have a drop-down box open (as you do with the "gear"). How does one accomplish that?
