Q: 10.7.3 - late 2011 iMac - update broke returning from sleep and connecting to wi-fi...

Installed the update and what wasn't a problem is now a problem.

The computer will not connect to wifi without me telling it to after coming out of sleep.  Was not an issue with 10.7.2.

I managed to get it working by using reinstall from time machine (by accident), I had mucked up so many things trying to get it right I went back a day or two and now it works fine, oddly I also now have the updated hand pointer and the slightly higher dpi default set for OS X's windows (Red green and yellow icons when you hover over them) as well which I didnt notice before. I think unless 10.7.3 is released over the recovery partition (its still 10.7.2) or 10.7.4 comes along this may get left as is. Apple got me to do a system capture via email like a few others but that could take time to patch, its just a bad update for many Macs pure and simple. as someone else said wait for 10.7.4 or download Lion as 10.7.3 which also works it seems. I would just wait tbh.

Mid 2011 iMac 21.5" ..... Client Combo and Repair Disk Permissions did not fix the issue. Waking up computer by pressing power button will reconnect my iMac to wifi automatically. I am not going to bother with EFI Firmware Update. Just gonna deal with it and wait for Apple to hopefully fix it.

A little more info.  Yesterday I had the problem and fixed it I thought by running repair permissions. Worked for awhile.

This afternoon, I woke my computer (iMac, Aug 2011) and again it would not connect to my WiFi even though my network was among those listed. On a hunch I again ran repair permissions which fixed one permission. Then the logon to WiFi from sleep worked.

    2012-02-08 13:57:56 -0800: Permissions differ on “usr/lib/ruby”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x .

    2012-02-08 13:57:56 -0800: Repaired “usr/lib/ruby”

Maybe others can check and see if this is a common ;;situation when their WiFi doesn't connect from sleep.

It happened once again no WiFi on wake, repair permissions with same error reported, and now I get WiFi when I wake my iMac. How long I don't know.

So...since I started this thread I will sumarize and hopefully try to stop useless speculation.  At least in reference to late 2011 iMacs...

The recent firmware update does not apply to late 2011 iMacs.  Also has nothing to do with wifi on earlier machines.

Repairing permissions (which I have done both before and after install) does not fix the issue.

The effect is the same whether having installed the now pulled (that's telling isn't it) delta update from Software Update or the "combo update".  I've tried both.

    Pet peeves...

Turning off bluetooth, pinging when the network is clearly not connected, reloading the OS all =

    iMac 21" i5 4 core, mid 2011

Last night was the last straw, during the last few days id tried every thing these posts suggested. Yesterday i did

a fresh instil of 10.7.0 from my iMac HDD, then it had to updated to 10.7.3 that was the combined update..Build 11D50b

Within an hour id let it sleep and every time after ... id loose the wifi..

So last night, i restarted and went into the recovery partition and formatted my HDD, then left over night

downloading a fresh copy of Lion 10.7.3 from Apple It was ready for me this morning to transfer my files from my time machine.

    Build 11D50

I ran the disk repair utility after it got going cool no problems. I have done 5 sleep tests this morning all passed, i

left it sleeping for the main bulk of today and i can happily say the wifi connects straight away so fingers crossed

the new copy is the way to go for Mid 2011 iMac's and maybe the later 2011 ones too?

10.7.3 is now pulled down via the recovery partition? It was 10.7.2 last week. If so thats great news, you from the UK?

Yes 10.7.3 is pulled down from the recovery partition, they must have updated it recently..

Up to date ive used 10.7.3 client update, no good.. 10.7.3 combo update.. no good ..

All that time i left my mac down loading 10.7.3 from Apple last night seems to be in vain, i left my mac while i was cooking dinner and the Wifi Failed after being good all day i doubt its a one off !

I have a 10.7.2 backup in my time machine,

going to erase my disk and restore back to 10.7.2  it wont take long  and I'll be happy in no time..

I for one will wait for 10.7.4 or utill Apple gives out a reworked 10.7.3 ???

    Yes i'm from the UK

I have to add my own frustrations.

2010 core i5 iMac. Prior to updating to 10.7.3, I never had problems connecting to our Airport Extreme Gen 4. After the 10.7.3 update, this has become quite problematic.

The machine is basically stock. No real third party apps. Apple Bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse.

I haven't tried waking using the power button yet. But I wonder what's the common denominator among all our problems.

    iMacs? Bluetooth keyboards and/or mice?

I generally think Disk Permission repair is voodoo and unlikely to fix anything related to Wifi.

My next idea is to do a full Lion restore from the USB key and try and stay at 10.7.2 until this is worked out. Frustrating.

iMac 2011 core i5                Wifi fix ?   Try this ?

    OS 10.7.3

Yesterday morning i deleted my Internet cache and system cache, straight away ran Disk Permission Repair that dragged on so i went and made a drink.

When i returned the Permissions were repaired, nothing reported. I promptly restarted and that took a little longer, i was begin to think id mucked it all up.. Worry not it did restart and since then it went to sleep a few time in the afternoon, and a long sleep over night, the wifi came back on every time.

The mac has had 5 or 6 sleeps today and iv had the wifi back on straight away!  I keep wondering when is it going to let me down like it used to... the wifi graying out!

I don't want to shout out success to loudly just incase it proves me wrong .... but it gone nearly two days and a night with out any trouble..

Well I have tried everything I could think of (and everything people here have tried) to correct the WiFi connection issue. So far nothing has worked for more than a short period of time. The latest try was to get the latest version of Lion from the App Store and do a clean install. That also did not work. What has worked is to turn off "allow bluetooth devices to waken this computer". Of course this means not allowing the computer to sleep or using the power button to wake the computer. Apple really screwed up this update. Am using 10.7.3 but with limited functionality. Really disappointed.

Iv done evrything to try and fix my wifi 10.7.3.. My 21.5 iMac mid 11 is now hooked up to my modem via a network cable, iv turned my wifi off..As it greys out intermitently and losses its conection after a sleep.

I have logged my isues with Apple and given my Serial Number, have you ?

    Cabled internet works every time

we will just have to be pacient while Apple work on a fix ???

Mine is now connected via Ethernet, I contacted Apple, they did a capture of data from on machine, now we just wait, saying that I am sticking to being connected via Ethernet Hope a patch or 10.7.4 gets rolled out soon, which ever comes first.

This reply in another thread may have a pretty good temporary answer:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17578637#17578637

This is a kext from 10.7.2 that likely controls Wifi. Some users have had luck replacing this file on 10.7.3 with the version from .7.2, finally being able to wake from sleep and aquire WiFi. For those comfortable mucking around in their System Folder, this may be the best temporary solution until Apple gets its act together.
