This reply in another thread may have a pretty good temporary answer:

This is a kext from 10.7.2 that likely controls Wifi. Some users have had luck replacing this file on 10.7.3 with the version from .7.2, finally being able to wake from sleep and aquire WiFi. For those comfortable mucking around in their System Folder, this may be the best temporary solution until Apple gets its act together.
It may be easier to simply set the Sleep timer to Never, thus preventing the computer from going to sleep and avoiding the wifi drop.

Feb 13, 2012 5:57 PM in response to Tgaraby raymondtorres,Was on the phone with Apple for almost 1 hour and after walking thru almost everything listed on all these post I was told they are working on a patch!! No time frame yet, When it will be out!! And to think Apple stock hit a all time high today!!

Feb 13, 2012 6:05 PM in response to raymondtorresby RocP,I had the same experience last week. On the phone with Apple and tried all things already posted until the phone tech asked someone about it and was told there is no permanent fix yet. Apple is working on it but no time frame.

Feb 15, 2012 8:04 PM in response to John Mertesby John Mertes,My post and fix by repairing permission is not the whole story, maybe not even relevant.
I've had the failure to connect a couple of times; but then I again select my network and my iMac connects on waking. I've ran verify permissions a couple of times and even though the permnissions are incorrect on
Permissions differ on “usr/lib/ruby”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x , I still connect.
So I just live with this until Apple fixes the problem whatever it is.

Feb 17, 2012 4:15 PM in response to John Mertesby tomabc, for what it's worth, my problem has sort of 'fixed itself'. After trying repair permission and reselecting the network a few times I simply left it and for the last few days (waking it up >30 times) it keeps connecting without problems

Yes, it worked for me too. Thanks Apple Engineers!!!

Feb 25, 2012 7:29 AM in response to RocPby drband,Does seem to work for me, too. I have been through all the other "fixes" on the various threads and none of those took care of the problem with connecting via wifi automatically after waking from sleep. This patch from Apple does! I can wake with the bluetooth keyboard or the trackpad, or BT mouse and it connects in less than 1 sec. every time (like it is supposed to!). Frustration over!

Feb 25, 2012 10:23 AM in response to kmfurdmby tmazzullo,Patch fixed it. I for one will be less likely in the future to download point updates.

Feb 27, 2012 12:24 PM in response to RocPby lorandreas,The new patch didn´t fix my "no wifi after sleep" problem.
Waking using the power button works though.

Feb 27, 2012 12:27 PM in response to lorandreasby DrVenture,How many preferred networks are there in your preferred network list? Go to System Preferences - Network - click on WiFi then advanced. If you have multiple, I would pair it down to just the one(s) you need since more iMac are not too mobile and give it another shot.
