Can I set Pages to ask me if I want to "save" a document before closing it? AppleWorks always used to ask me first before closing a document I was working on. Is there a way to get Pages to do this, too? Thanks.

There's no need because Versions saves your documents automatically.
But if I if I make a mistake, I used to be able to NOT save the document and go back to the original version. That is why I like the option to save or not save the document.
You can go back to the original version because it, too, has been saved. See this article: OS X Lion- About Auto Save and Versions
The difference being it didn't save when you wanted to.

You can save a version at any time. If you wish to replicate a Save As, then select Duplicate and then Save. You can then change the name and/or location of the file if you so wish.
Peter, Yes. And if I made a mistake in text, I could choose to close the document and NOT save it. Then open again. And it was a quick process. This other stuff all takes a long time when you are busy writing.
Once you learn what to do it takes no longer than whatever you did before.
No, the old way on AppleWorks with the window coming up was VERY fast. You didn't have to touch the menu bar or do anything but click on YES or NO.
Whatever. You can complain about it or learn to use it or restore the backup of your old Snow Leopard system. But as of now you need to learn to use Lion's features if you plan to contnue using it.
Ah I do miss that in the Classic Mac OS.
As the system buffered mouse and keyboard messages you could OK and type shortcuts before the dialog box even opened and hit return (OK) so it closed as soon as it opened.
I could fly through work as I knew what was coming.
In OSX it is like a slow moving bank queue. Nobody can move until the previous person leaves and the teller calls.

You assume there is a Snow Leopard system to go back to. Mine came with Lion installed. And this is not a feature of Lion. It is a feature of Pages. No offense, but I have produced 5 national primetime TV specials. I'm not stupid, OK? And I wasn't complaining. If that's all you have to say, please don't repsond.
Actually it is a feature of Lion, you are just observing it in Pages because that is what you happen to be using.

If all you can do is gripe about it then don't post. I'm trying to help you understand but you seem just to want to argue about the past being better than the present. If you cannot use Snow Leopard then learn to deal with what you have.

If you make a mistake you can undo (Cmd + Z) back to last save or when you opened the document. I don't think that has changed with Lion.
