can i use automator to empty the trash?
can i set up the trash to empty ever time a user logs off my macbook pro?

I think the easiest way to accomplish that would be through a Guest user account. When the Guest user logs out files they created are deleted. There are some other advantages as well. You can find a pretty good overview http://52tiger.net/create-a-guest-account-in-mac-os-x-lion/
