older version of itunes cannot be removed, unable to recognize iphone!

Having the same reaccuring problem for about a year now. Everytime I try to update or install new itunes I get the message "older version of itunes cannot be removed. contact technical support group" I'm really unsure what to do and have checked all over the web for an answer.... I'm not sure where I went wrong but I've been able to live with the problem for so long beacuse I can get to my library from going into my music folder and clicking on the itunes library option. However it has become impossible for me to update my iphone with new music. I can get to the itunes store, and even burn new CDs but I can't plug in my iphone...... hopefully someone has a solution to this problem! Please help if you can!

Try the following steps:

1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:

it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

iTunes

  1. QuickTime
  2. Apple Software Update
  3. Apple Mobile Device Support
  4. Bonjour
  5. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components

3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
