connect harddrive to a cable to transfer music?

+I have my harddrive from a gen5 ipod video. the Toshiba MK3008GAL I think there are cases and cables that the drive can be connected to and they go to usb. I would like to know if anyone has used one, which cable/case, and if the files are easily recognized as mp3/aiff/ MUSIC! This is all of my life's collection! I gave away most of my CDs and records, and there are even personal recordings on the drive. it's all I got. My laptop and ipod died together when I lost my life's savings/possessions two years ago.

If anyone knows anything, I would appreciate it! I don't have my original serial number so I can't get support from Apple. all I have is the harddive.
