There is no sound in system at all.
I rebooted my Mac into Windows 7 via BootCamp. And turn ON sound there. Then, I rebooted into MacOS and I have sound.
Thanks.
Thanks for finding that. I would have never known. I'll be making a user tip that will have that suggestion so we don't forget!
Thanks for ur support of my problem.
I also have no sound after upgrading to 10.7.3. A reboot of my system after the upgrade solved it. TEMPORARILY!! Today, after my mac was off all night, I booted it up and it was fine. I left it running all day and when I returned to it after a day of working, there was no audio.
Whenever I try to increase or decrease the volume, there is a "DO NOT ENTER" circle with a slash through it (see screenshot).
I rebooted again, and now the problem is gone again. I have now booted into my recovery partition, ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions. Let's see what happens nnext. I'll update this post in a few days, if I see any change.
Try to open Apple MIDI Setup, if you will have an error, this problem just like mine.
Turned iMac on this AM after being off all night and after a repair permissions, no audio.
I ended up restoring my iMac back to 10.7.2 using TIme Machine. Problem is gone. I'll no longer update my OS as soon as an update is released. Waiting a few months is probably a good idea moving forward.
Same problem here. What if you don't have BootCamp? Seems a "random" solution....
Tried installing the 10.7.3 combo update, still same strange problem, recap:
After updating to 10.7.3 if I boot having my external audio system jack plugged in there will be no sound available (volume control greyed on menu bar).
If I boot unplugging the jack, audio is available and fully functional for the entire session.
😠😠😠😠😟
Update: jack being connected is not relevant.
Temporary working solution:
sudo killall coreaudiod
in the terminal will restart sound system and get sound back if you happen to boot without.
I'm having the same problems with the sound on mij MBP early 2011. I've tried every solutions that i have found on the internet, nothing works... I have even installed lion again.
Same problem on imac 27 mid 2011.
Randomly works, sometimes not.
Reinstall iTunes and seemed to have finally resolved but does not work.
Workaround: sudo killall coreaudiod
I hope that Apple fix the problem as soon as possible
The command: sudo killall coreaudiod and reinstall Itunes doesn't work for me either. Tomorrow i'll call to Apple. I hope they can help me.
