Q: Suddenly getting certificate authentication errors

The last few weeks I'm suddenly getting tons of "Warning: the certificate isn't valid" error messages when I go to sites on Safari. Normal sites: Facebook, Chase bank, amazon -- nothing suspect or out of the ordinary. I haven't downloaded anything suspect, virus scans reveal no issues, no viruses... is this problem something inherent to the latest update of Safari? Or, is there a setting I need to change - a box I need to tick - to make this stop happening? It's so constant now that I can barely use Safari because every new URL generates authentication messages.

MacKeeper......... bad stuff !! Deletes system files it shouldn't...

Get rid of it > Uninstalling MacKeeper

I ran a search in the ASC forums for MacKeepr. Results here. None favorable...

FYI... your Mac runs maintenance for you. There's no need for third party so called cleaning utilities.

Which anti virus software do you have installed? That's probablhy the problem.

And try reinstalling Safari 5.1.2

Carolyn, you are like my Apple guru today! I posted this right after deciding that I wasn't going to use Chrome. Chrome was supposed to be the antidote to my Safari woes, but its inability to access my existing keychain knocked it outta the running.

I don't use any antivirus software. I do a scan for viruses every now and then with MacKeeper, but there is no active virus protection on my Mac, so there's nothing interfering with internet connections. I don't have any special ports or boxes ticked in the Security preference pane either. My firewall is even set to "off." This issue happens not only with Safari, but every now and then with TweetDeck as well: authentification errors, certificates being expired, that sort of thing.

YOu know what, I bet that's it. I just did a search for Mackeeper Problems and uncovered a treasure trove of them. Uninstalling, and hopefully that will fix it! Thanks a million.

Avoid third party "cleaning" utilities !!

I did! I also did a google search and WOOOOWWWWW..... I had no idea. Cleansing my Mac at this moment!
