Unable to select a destionation to install OS X

I am trying to install OS X on my Mac but it will not allow me to select a destionation. Can anyone help?

Usually when a hard disk does not show up as a destination for an OS install, it is because:


* The software install disks were for a different model of Mac and cannot be used on your Mac; or

* The disk is not partitioned in a way consistent with the OS that one is trying to install;

* The OS install is for an Intel Mac but you are trying to install onto a PPC Mac (or vice versa)


It could be other things but these ones seem more common.
