Q: Rosetta Problems after Security Update 2012-001

My crack team of sys admins and I have devised a method for resolving some of the issues regarding the Security Update 2012-001 and Rosetta.

Click this link for an Installer that will revert the files necessary for some Rosetta apps to run after the Security Update. This is a band-aid and is only recommended in emergency situations. Apple is currently working on a fix, but until that happens, we are stuck with reverse-engineering their update. I hope this helps those in distress from this update.

A:

Replaces a framework for imageio and it should be updated when apple issues a fix... Since it is the framework causing the issue.

    v 1.1 is the patched version, 1.0 is the borked version.

     

    If 1.0 didn't bork your machine, you should still apply 1.1,

    I did install the original, Software Update did offer the new version, & it has fixed every issue I had after installing the original.

     

    Apple had this new version tested & released within about 48 hours of the original release. That isn't bad considering the many sometimes contradictory reports of the original's effects on users' systems.

    Even if my problem with MS Office was fixed I decided to install the Security Update 1.1

    Office 2004 (and my ohters softwares working with Rosetta) is working fine (open, save, save as...)

    Hello, i am having trouble with the link that was posted. The Rosetta patch, to be exact. When i click the link it takes me to a page for the company 'Bluehost'. It almost seems like an ad. if so, how do i bypass it. Screen shot 2013-05-08 at 8.05.07 PM.png

    You shouldn't need to do this at all. Just run the latest Security Update 2013-001; I believe it's cumulative and includes all prior updates and patches.

    I downloaded the update but i am still not able to open my powerpc applications. From what i have seen the system will ask you if you want to use rosetta to run something? not sure. :/ If it helps i am trrying to open Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb for mac. Application 'quits unexpectedly' upon open. Help in any form would be greatly appreciated.

    Go to System Prefs>Software Update>Installed Software. Does Rosetta show in the list? If not

    I have no idea about the specific application you are talking about, but have you seen if  other PPC apps suffer from the same problem? If you go to >About this Mac>More info>Software, you will get a list of all the apps and whether PPC, Intel or Universal.

     

    Were PPC apps once working and then stopped working? If so, at what point did this happen? I don't understand why you would have installed this very old, by now, update only recently.

    Yes rosetta is shown on the system prefs installed software. I have googled my specific app i need to open, and it says it does run on rosetta. Should i maybe partition some of my hard drive to Tiger? Maybe then i can run it. hmmm.... :/

    Just tried loading another powerpc app. Same problem except it doesn't even give me the 'unexpected quit' message. Just bounces a few times then stops.

    Just to be clear, this only started happening after you ran the 2012-001 update? Do you have another account to test this from? If not create one.

     

    If the PPC apps still don't open, then boot into Safe Boot (Shift key down at the startup chime and expect a much longer boot) and repair Permissions there for the volume in Disk Utility. Then try while still booted in Safe Boot.

    Sorry for the newbie reply; do you think you could explain this again? Not sure what was meant when you said repair permissions either. I understood safe boot, as I have done it before for a reason I can't remember a while ago. :) thanks for the help you have supplied in this.

     

    And I can't be sure about wether my mac was capable of running my app before the update you mentioned because I recently got it, and I haven't tried with any older versions yet.
