Sound on MacBook Pro doesn't work sometimes

I have the early 2011 pro and sometimes the volume doesnt play at all, even when i lower or raise the volume..No music plays or video at all. Even with headphones plugged in or not plugged in.The only way for the sound to come back is if i restart the macbook..Is there another way to fix this..its so annoying. And there is no water damage or anything at all. I treat this macbook like a newborn baby.
