If you set up an iCloud account on it, and then enabled the "find-my-iPod" setting under that account's settings, BEFORE it was lost, then you can track it by logging into your iCloud account in a web browser. Otherwise, there is no way to track it.

Even if the find setting was enabled, the device needs to be on and connected to a data connection to work (ie. it needs a data connection for the iCloud servers to communicate with it and for it to send them it's location information).

If you had Mackeeper installed you would be able to track it. Report it stolen through Mackeeper Anti-theft and it would be located when it went online. Great program. Highly reccomend the program.

err, isn't Mackeeper a computer program only, not a mobile device app? And even if it were available for a mobile device like the iPod Touch, it suffers from exactly the same limitations as Apple's own find-my-iPod. All a theif needs do is plug the iPod into iTunes, restore as new, and everything previously installed and set up on the device is wiped out.

Relying on any remote tracking software that requires a data connection is weak security at best. Even a Mac computer can have the hard drive reformatted and the OS reinstalled if stolen by someone intent on resale, destroying any such tracking software. With the device in someone elses hands, relying on any software solution to find the device is flawed, as there is almost always going to be a simple way to circumvent the online tracking feature.

Mackeeper is the ticket and you can't beat the price and it has more features and is upgrading all the time. Anyone who doesn't have it should get it. ICloud will keep costing and costing. Soon MacKeeper will be offering storage and more. 24/7 support best software ever for security, anti-virus, cleaning, uninstalling and the list goes on and on.................😉

No, the find-my device is a feature of iCloud. You must have set up an iCloud account on your lost device, and then enabled the find setting under that account's settings for the system to work at all. No iCloud account on the device means no find-my-phone could possible be enabeld on it.

Nonsense. All the thief has to do is erase the system prior to the attempt to locate the device and the ability to track it is disabled. Even if it's located once, that's limited to the range of the WiFi router (which is all that is actually located, in the case of a Mac or iOS device without 3G and GPS) which most police departments do not consider sufficient evidence for a search warrant.
