Removing the QuickTime Wrapper

Hello: I have QuickTime 7 Pro. I have a .m4v video in a QuickTime .mov wrapper. Is there a way to remove the QuickTime wrapper so this file is a (host application: more universal) .m4v video. I do not want to re-compress or double compress (via export) this video file. I just want to remove the QuickTime wrapper or copy out the .m4v video. Thank-you, MLR

You can use Subler to re-wrap compatible data tracks (H.264, AAC, AC3, etc) from an MOV file container to an M4V file container. (QT 7 Pro only stores data tracks to the generic MOV file container without re-compression using the "Save As..." option.)

Hi Jon: Thank-you. I downloaded "Subler". It did exactly what I wanted. I consider my original question answered. Otherwise, just a note incase I'm making a mistake . . . Subler (for my current situation) creates a .mp4 extension. I'm changing that extension to .m4v so this file's audio track is more "Apple Player App" compatible (according to the following article . . . http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=441377 ). Thanks again, MLR

You should not have to manually change the file extension in either HandBrake or Subler. Both are capable of producing M4V files when the proper work flow is used. In the case of HandBrake you must select the correct preset option(s) and with Subler the source file extension and file type must match and the imported tracks must be M4V file container compatible. Since I have no idea what you are doing, I cannot say if you are making a mistake in your work flow or not. I can, however, post a file showing you what I see whwn I use Subler to re-wrap data and/or adjust aspect ratio.
