loading a new ipod classic - discrepancy in song count

I chose what to load manually, checking off playlists and genres. The count in the iPod music selection screen for the selections I made is 323 songs greater than the display that shows sync progress. Why would this happen?

If you meant there are 323 less songs loaded into iPod, than those you selected in iTunes, could be those 323 songs are not iPod compatible.

Not all songs that you can play in iTunes or bought in iTunes store is iPod compatible, maybe okay if your iPod Classic is late 2009 model and has firmware 2.0.4. which can play HE-AAC format.

Identify the missing songs in iTunes, Click Get Info, take note of the format, bitrate.

Thanks for the answer. I have a brand new Classic, so I expect the firmware is the latest. Unfortunately finding the 323 songs to try to discover a common issue with them in a library of over 39,000 songs is a near-impossible task, even filtering for bit rate. I'm wondering if there might be other file-type criteria to look for.

Here is the Apple Support Article that list file formats are iPod compatible, iTunes will not copy to iPod if the file format is not in the list.

The latest iPod Classic firmware is 2.0.4, which can handle HE-AAC music file. Check in iTunes when you connect the iPod what is your iPod firmware version.

Please don't assume that any recently purchased Ipod Classic has the latest firmware.
