webarchive file
Greetings! I have downloaded a video of President Obama from the whitehouse.gov page.
It is a webarchive file. How do I make it compatible so I can import into Final Cut Studio?
Thanks!

Before you do anything, you should ask the copyright holder for permission to use the video. If it is granted, you can then ask for a copy in a format suitable for editing that works with FCP.
What is the file extension?
-DH
.webarchive
It's the default option when you Save As... from Safari, the other being Page Source (html)
a web archive file is not a video file, its an html page descrption file which contains text.
Its of no use to you in editing video.
most websites wont allow you to download and let you save a video file to your computer
@Gary Scotland, can you tell if a website does or does not allow its video to be downloaded and saved on computer?
Gary-thank you. Based on your reply I did some more research on WebArchive using Google. One source gave a definition of Web Archive and stated that it could "contain HTML, images, sound and video from web pages".
I also downloaded a video from you tube and it was saved by Safari in WebArchive file format and it
could be viewed satisfactorly as a video. However, I then downloaded another you tube video--while it did
download in Web Archive format, I could not view it as a video.
I really don't iunderstand why Apple would make Webarchive the standard default when saving a video
if you then cannot view it as a video. What am I missing?

are you saving the video or the page? Try control clicking ON the video and see what comes up. If saving is enabled on the website and it's a quicktime, go ahead and save. You may need to convert the format to a fcp friendly format such as prores.
