Software Update Problem

I did the Software Update on 2/2 and installed 1) Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.2 and 2) Security Update 2012-001 1.0. Today the Software Update is telling me there is a download available. It is another Security Update2012-001 but a version 1.1. I went to click the link to see what it is and it says the page can't be found. the link is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.

The Security Update I installed on 2.2 took 35 minutes. This new link when it goes to find it ads the word "Null" at the end. Any sugestions?

What if I installed 1.0 Security Update 2012-001 on 2/2 and today I get another Security Update available (which I have not installed yet because I just instaled a huge one on 2/2) for me on 2/4 and is version 1.1?

do I uninstall the 1.0 Security Update 2012-001 or leave that one and now install the Security Update 2012-001 v 1.1 that Software Update notified me of this morning?

My question is NOT that there is a problem with the Security Update 1.0, but I was nervous just downloading a 1.0 that took 35 minutes (which is rare for my conection) 2 days ago and now today there is another Security Update2012-001 1.1.

Should I install 1.1 when I just installed 1.0 2 days ago? I have never seen 2 installs for Security Updates so close together. Just mae me nervous

Sorry, I tried to be clear about the my Question but I guess I was not.

The question is, on 2/2 after my MacBook Pro did the scheduled Daily Software Update (Apple--->Software Updates--->) it showed that there were (2) New Software Updates for your computer. One was a Security Update 2012-001 version 1.0 which I did download and install. It took 35 minutes, which was very unusual for any security update that I had installed in the past.

Today, 2/4, I turned my MacBook Pro on and the Software Updates showed there was another Security Update

2012-001, v. 1.1.

Having more expereince with destroying computers then making them run better, I thought I would come here and try to find out what to do. As one of the Replies says, it is not if I should install it by using the Apple software Updater or going to the web page and downloading it from there, my question is, do I download it and install it at all since I did install the version on 2/2.

Any advice? Thanks for the help already given!

Ok, here is my case.

On Snow Leopard (10.6.8) I installed "Apple security update 2012-001 vs 1.0"

This update crew up all PPC / Rosetta run applications on my computer, such as MS word 2004, FileMaker 6, Quicken 2007. Simptoms: no printing, can't save document etc.

Later Apple posted "Apple security update 2012-001 vs 1.1" I assume because they discovered the bug they introduced in 1.0 update

I installed vs 1.1 of Apple security update 2012-001 vs 1.1" and it fixed problems with Rosetta related applications introduced by earlier "Apple security update 2012-001 vs 1.0"

Let's examine these options:

1. This is called if it is not broken, don't fix it. You installed 1.0. You are seeing no scanning, no application launch issues, nor printing issues. If that's the case, leave all well enough alone, but backup your data as frequently as needed.

2. You already installed 1.0, but found printing or scanning, or launching old applications started failing. That's when you would want ot install 1.1 update. Once all is working again, backup your data.

3. You are having scanning or printing issues, or launching old applications but have never installed any security updates to 10.6.8. Installing update 1.1 won't make a difference in your issue, as it has to do with the compatibility of what you last installed, not what to do with the security update. You can still backup your data, or attempt to recover your old backup from when you last knew it was working. But downgrading is a pain, and it requires at least having a working copy of your documents and installation discs.

1.1 is meant to replace 1.0 when 1.0 fails. Nothing more.

a brody-

But "when 1.0 fails" for most of us at least for me is like telling me to make the call if all of the sudden my printer will not pick up the paper, or Safari now gave me 3 episodes of the beach ball when I usually just get 1 a week. I would think the Apple Experts would make it more clear on what we should do if they think it is best to leave 1.0 installed and don't install 1.1 if your computer is having no problems. that is hard for a lot of people to decide if they are having problems that require them to make the decision on what to do.

I personally think if you feel comfortabel calling the shot, good for you, but some stupid computer person like me does not have that knowledge. this came up on my computer and unless Apple made a real bad mistake and will not tell us, I will wait a couple ays and if there is no news I will install the 1.1 version.

The issue of 1.0 would be obvious if it hits you, unless you chose to not install some older software until much later. So if you installed 1.0, test that all your applications are able to print that you want to print from, and scan that you know should scan. If all do, there is no reason to patch it, you are up to date enough it won't impact you. Be aware of how old any software you install is.
