Feb 4, 2012 6:41 PM in response to NObodEby a brody,The issue of 1.0 would be obvious if it hits you, unless you chose to not install some older software until much later. So if you installed 1.0, test that all your applications are able to print that you want to print from, and scan that you know should scan. If all do, there is no reason to patch it, you are up to date enough it won't impact you. Be aware of how old any software you install is.

Feb 4, 2012 6:56 PM in response to Noble Sevenby NObodE,I guess everybody would know that the 1.0 version caused "Rosetta applications to fail..." What are Rosetta applications? I was surprised how large the updates are, but again, No sé nada de computadoras.

Feb 4, 2012 7:35 PM in response to NObodEby Noble Seven,If you know don't what Rosetta Applications are, and you haven't had any problems, you probably aren't using any. And like some people have said, in this case, you don't need to install the 1.1 update.
But, the way I see it, it's always good to be up to date on software.

Feb 4, 2012 7:38 PM in response to Noble Sevenby NObodE,OK, I think I know what you are referring to. You meant to say; "If you don't know what Rosetta Applications are..." Are they the applications that teach you various languages? If they are not it is ovr my head. But I do like to learn.

Feb 4, 2012 7:44 PM in response to NObodEby Noble Seven, haha, no. That's one kind of Rosetta Application, but the ones we're talking about are entirely different. From what I know, I believe they're Applications from pre-Intel Macs (PowerPC). You can see where this would pose a problem for a lot of people if those stopped working, as a lot of people still use those Apps on their Intel Macs.
Of course, support for those Applications was completely dropped with Lion, which upset quite a few people.

Feb 4, 2012 7:47 PM in response to a brodyby Thomas Miller2,After I installed the Sec. Update today on my MBA , I found that some Rosetta apps wouldn't launch (AppleWorks) and some would. I heard there was a 2nd Sec. Update, so I used Software Update and installed another, but AW still doesn't launch.
I had tried http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1489, but always got http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1489?viewlocale=null&locale=null
Suggestions???

Feb 4, 2012 7:56 PM in response to Thomas Miller2by NObodE,Yea, that is what happened to me when I first clickd the link to read more about the update. it kept trying to get me to a "null" webpage. It added some extra words/numbers at the end of the origional link that should take you to the webpage that tells you what the update is about.
I thought; "shxt" somebody gave me a virus. My first Mac virus. I restarted my computer, clicked the link for the 1/1 version, and it took me to the right page. I think the "Null" it adds to the end o the link is part of the problem since so many people are having trouble right now, the link is over loaded.
Restart your computer and rather then click the link, cut and paste it, and it should bring you to the right link. If not once try gain. it has caused a lot of trouble for people. As I said what it did to you it did to me until I finally got it to take me to the right web page after I cut and pasted the link. I wanted to read about the update before I installed it.
that is what started this whole thread. I still have not installed version 1.1.

Feb 4, 2012 8:12 PM in response to Thomas Miller2by NObodE,I know this does not help you, but that is one reason when I smell trouble in n update I hold off until I see what happens. I would not do anything else until Apple decides how they are going to corect their errors. It started with a Security Update about 2 days ago. that caused a lot of trouble with some apps. So they put out v. 1.2 that fixed a lot of problems but as you know made it worse or status quo for some.
what helped me with the suffix that kept getting aded to the origional link (the Null) is I restarted in safe mode making sure you hold the shift key down after you hear the tone. You can let your finger off the shift key once the apple appears and the progress indicator appear. Then wait until that finishes and restart or shut down and turn on to get the computer in normal mode.
