LED Cinema Display Firmware 1.4.17 broke my display 27" LED Cinema Display

Hello,

After applying the LED Cinema Display Firmware 1.4.17 update my 27" LED Cinema Display is now plauged with issues. My Mac was on with the display asleep when all of a sudden it started making a glitched, repeating sound from it's speakers. I had to force restart my Mac to get it working again. Now the diplsy has lots of tiny flickering pixels appearing and disappearing everywhere. I also noticed just after I had installed the update that I had a 1 pixel line of pixel junk across the top of my display which disappeared after I restarted.

Can anyone help? How could Apple release a firmware update like this? I'm very worried about my display and not at all happy.

Where did you get that update? I ask because I only know of (and could only find with a google search) a LED Cinema Display Firmware Update 1.0. I don't (or didn't) think apple numbers their firmware updates like 1.4.17.

If the update you used was indeed a firmware update then I don't know how you can correct the problem if that update is truly the cause of your problem(s). You could try the firmware update 1.0 I linked above. But that update will check if it is needed. If it thinks it is not it won't install itself. That possibility exists depending on that firmware update you installed.

It was via Software Update. After looking in /Library/Receipts/InstallHistory.plist the update is reported as follows:

<dict>

<key>date</key>

<date>2012-02-04T11:28:20Z</date>

<key>displayName</key>

<string>LED Cinema Display Firmware Update</string>

<key>displayVersion</key>

<string>1.0</string>

<key>packageIdentifiers</key>

<array>

<string>com.apple.pkg.LEDCinemaDisplayAudioUpdate</string>

</array>

<key>processName</key>

<string>Software Update</string>

</dict>

If you get info on the LED Cinema Display Firmware Update.app in the Utilities directory it reports it's version number as 1.4.17 (same in the About box if you open it up).

I already tried to downgrade but as you said, the installed just tells you that you don't need it.

I've had the display completely off and unplugged overnight and it now seems to be working OK but I'm still quite worried that it will happen again. Are Apple aware of these issues with their latest firmware update for the display I wonder?
