My iPhone 4s will not charge using wall charger unit. It will only charge when connect to my computer UBS., My iPhone 4s will not charge using wall charger unit. It will only charge when connect to my computer UBS.

For about a month, I have to charge my iPhone 4S using my laptop UBS connection. It will not charge from the wall unit. I always update the OS. Is there any settings that I might have changed by mistake?

Like the OP, my phone will charge via USB from my computer, any computer, but will not charge from the wall charger. This is a new symptom. And I am sure. I have a 4S and my wife has a 4. Neither work from any of our several wall chargers but both work from the computer USB ports.

I hope I'm not going to get a reply asking if I'm sure of what I am seeing. I hope I and the others get a response from someone who can help fix this problem.

If the phone charges fine from a USB port on a computer but will not charge from the mins charger, the logical conclusion must be that the mains charger is faulty, or the wall outlet is faulty. If the wall outllet works with other devices, the charger is faulty. If the charger works with other outlets, the wall outlet is faulty.

I have the same issue with my partners 4S. I have a iphone 4 and my phone works on mains powers - we have 3 different charges we have all tried on hers and do not work but work on mine. We have tried every outlet in the house and same issue, works on mine doesnt work on her 4S.

The issue only started about a month ago. It started with only charging from mains if turned off - then the phone would refuse to stay turned off - now it wont charge at all from mains but works fine from a PC.

Its a very odd one as if it was something wrong with the docking port it surely shouldnt work through PC then?

I am having the exact same issue as dapedwa. My wife and I have an ipad, she has an iphone 4S and I have an iphone 4 CDMA. My phone will connect to a computer and charge just fine any cable, any time. I have tried my wall charger her wall charger and even the ipad wall charger to charge my phone, when my phone is on no charger will charge it in any outlets in my apartment. My wifes phone will work just fine connected to any one of the 3 chargers plugged into any outlet though. My phone charges fine if I plug it into the wall if I turn it off after I plug it in. Seems to me to be some kind of strange software issue, not sure though, ANY ideas on fixing this???

I updated my iphone 4 to ios7 three days ago. It now will only charge if connected to a computer USB port, either Mac or windows. It no longer charges on any wall mounted USB cable, like it did before the upgrade. The wall mounted cables still work just fine with an iPhone 4S and a new iPad retina display but not at all with the iPhone 4. Took it to a genius at apple store and they checked the battery. It still charges to 80% of original. They were clueless and suggested I replace the unit. It seemed to be related to ios7

Of course. I only have Apple cables and wall charger units. I have tried all of my cables and wall units without success. It appears to be a software issue. I know that Apple put software in ios7 to prevent people from using non apple cables etc, but they usually receive a message that the cable is not appropriate. I receive no message about the cable. In fact I can use any of the cables as long as they are powered from a computer (mac or otherwise), but cannot use an apple wall device to power the cable. The iphone does not indicate that it is charging, but in reality will charge, but extremely slowly. After 10 hours it will get to about 50% charge on these wall mounted units.

The limitation on non-Apple approved cables is for the iPhone 5 series only; the cable contains active components, and some unapproved cables do not work properly and can damage the phone. That is irrelevant to your problem with your 4 or 4S. Most likely there is dirt in the dock connector on the bottom of the phone that is blocking the signal from the wall unit that says it can supply more than 0.5 amps. If it was a software bug it would affect millions of devices, and there would be thousands of posts about it.

Try cleaning the connector with an air blast, dry toothbrush, or wood toothpick. Watch what you are doing with a magnifying glass.

I took the device to an apple store. 4 techs evaluated it. The connector is clean, and the metal connectors are in good condition. There is no dust or debris and everything looks great under the magnifying glass.

At the store it was confirmed that the iphone only charges when the cable is connected to a computer, but not when the same cable and phone are connected to a variety of wall chargers.

The genius's at Apple concluded it must have been a glitch install of i0s7 so we did a complete DFU reinstall. The problem did not go away. So it is anyone's guess: Is it a hardward issue? (can't detect one, and it doesn't make sense as it charges with the same cable if plugged into a computer, but not if plugged into a wall device) or a software issue? (however, a complete reinstall of the software did not solve the problem) There is nothing to point to either.

The only options seem to be to continue to charge with a PC (desktop or laptop, mac or windows- it doesn't matter) or to replace the iPhone.

The issue began as soon as I upgraded to iOs7.
