    @jimmyfaeglesga

    I have exactly the same problem. I have an unlocked iPhone 4S running iOS7 bought in the UK, and never had problems since buying it 2 years ago. I have just bought  the same sim as you and have the same result. I can call and text but data doesn't work. The vodafone shop had no answers, vodafone technical support couldn't solve it (after 20 mins of options) and we tried the sim in another phone and the data worked fine, so it is an iPhone problem.

    If you resolved the issue please let me know!

    @Peter Gillespie Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Jack

    My problem was resolved by going to a genius appointment and the firmware being reinstalled and factory resetting the device. You might not have to go into the apple store, but thats what I did.

    a back up and restore to factory settings can be done anywhere as long as you have a computer with iTunes and is connected to the internet.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your suggestions ios decipher, I've tried these already to no avail.

    The problem isnt resolved. The 3G connection was working once the iphone was restored to factory settings, but once it was restored with my backup it no longer does. Literally clueless now. The only other suggestion the Apple Store had was that it could be a hardware failure somewhere, although the phone works fine apart from this and has worked perfectly (inc data use) in the UK for the last 2 years.

    So confused.

    The issue is now resolved. The problem was that I had a profile installed that was stopping the connection. I deleted all profiles and all is good. I have a feeling it was the Onavo or Testflight app.

    For people still looking for a solution when using UK iPhones in Australia: just delete all profiles listed in Settings>>General>> bellow Itunes Wi-Fi Sync and VPN.

    That worked when using Optus PAYG sim card.

    Thanks cippall, this worked for me too - there was a Vodafone UK profile installed on my iPhone 5S, which I simply deleted. This was after fruitless hours on the phone with Telstra, trying to sort out why my new prepaid SIM would make calls and texts, but wouldn't access data (although it showed both 3G and 4G signal symbols).  Incidentally, once I deleted the profile, the menu option under Settings/General disappeared. So if that option doesn't appear on the Settings/General menu down below Itunes/Sync, then (I think) you don't have any profiles installed.
