Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Ipad2 app store can't download apps - get error 'item is being modified, try again later', but daughter IS able to download it just fine!

I'm unable to download almost all apps on my ipad2 now. This problem got worse now over the last 2 days. I click on the purchase, then get 'This item is currently being modified. Please try again later.'. I've tried 'rebooting' the iPad (turning it off then back on). I then asked my daughter to try downloading the same app on her ipad2, and it works just fine for her - no error message. I try again, and same error. Apple support had me reset the iPad, and it still didn't work. Apple support had me try to install it on my iTunes from my pc (windows 7 pc), and it doesn't work for me from there either.

It sounds to me like it's a problem then with my iTunes account (my iTunes account is about 6 years old) - my daughters iTunes acct, like her ipad2, is brand new. My iPad2 is a couple months old...

Since it fails on my pc iTunes, I don't think that it is a problem with my iPad.

Since my daughter can install the apps in the middle of when I'm getting the errors, I don't think that the error is correct - it can't be being modified if my daughter can download it...

3 hours with apple support was no help - they don't see any problem with my iTunes account, and just say that it must be an issue with the app...

That doesn't make sense to me when my daughter can download it just fine, and it is happening to me with SO MANY APPS!

By the way, my daughter is here in the same house with me, with wifi access being used to download the apps.

Again, it is happening with almost EVERY app I try to download now, but occasionally I am able to download an app.

I've downloaded hundreds of apps over the 2 months I've owned my iPad, and have gotten this error sporadically the whole time I've had my iPad.

At first I thought the error was valid, but now with it happening over and over again, and trying again 'hours' or a day later doesn't help, I don't see how these apps can really be 'being modified' all this time, especially when my daughter can download these apps just fine (several of them)

Is anyone else having this problem?? How to fix it???

I'm having the very same issue as you are. Trying to download some free apps and just keep getting this weird message. Using my wife's apple ID I can download the apps immediately.

Update:

I, too, have opened a support ticket with Apple. And, like you, the response I got was one that clearly didn't understand the problem. I am awaiting another response, after I put the issue in the clearest terms I could think of.

I've been having this problem with 4 apps, all of which are doing a temporary free promotion. Just now, 2 of the 4 apps magically worked. The other 2 are still giving the same error message.

I think, if other people are ok with it, we should all list exactly what apps we're having problems with. Who knows, we might be able to figure out a solution ourselves, since it is becoming increasingly apparent that Apple's tech support won't be of much help. Mine are:

1. Toast the Chicken

2. Mood Tracker: By the Cheryl T. Herman Foundation

3. G.U.N

4. MapleStory Cygnus Knights Edition

Toast the Chicken and Mood Tracker are the two that just worked for me, and G.U.N and MapleStory are still not.

OK, I just confirmed your experience. I was not able to install G.U.N or MapleStory, but I was able to install the other two. Also, after I got the "currently being modified" message on each of the failed attempts, it immediately started trying to load Kinotopic, which is my most recent failed attempt, prior to these two.

So check out Kinotopic and see how that goes.

Also, as I mentioned in my earlier post, when I was prompted to login for my first attempted purchase of G.U.N, I got the "Unable to purchase" message: "ccMixter and 11 other items could not be purchased at this time. Please try again later." Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Hi - with regards to your first post, I think my initial problem description should be clear enough for the ITunes folks!

My 2 latest apps are : Haypi Dragon - had gone to free on Friday I think, still broken. The 2nd for me was for a price-drop app, brick breaker escape! HD. It's reduced price is $1.99 and I can't get it either!

By the way, I've heard back from the developer for brick breaker escape and they assured me that they HAVE NOT been making any changes to their app over the weekend, proving that the iTunes error is bogus!

And, also for iTunes (for anyone else wanting to waste several hours of time with an un-knowledgeable customer service rep), some people ARE able to download the problematic apps JUST FINE - throught the time period when others of us are getting the error message!

Thanks all for continuing to post to this problem - maybe if we get enough irate people, iTunes will look into the problem!

I'm having the same problem (same error message) with slightly different details. I'm getting the "this item is currently being modified. please try again later" error message for In-App purchases on the Comixology app (and sibling apps like the DC Comics app). I'm getting this on my iPad2 and my iPhone 4S. I am only trying to buy items that are on sale.

In some cases, I couldn't purchase the item on one device in one app, but I could on the other device in the other app (the Comixology and DC Comics apps use the same account and share items). In other cases, I wasn't able to make the purchase on any device using any app. I kept trying and I was finally able to purchase all sale items through a combination of persistance (trying over and over again) and switching devices and apps.

I'm having the same problem with sale items today, but the Comixology and Marvel Comics app do not share the same account information, so I can't do the same kind of work-around.

This is pretty annoying. Comixology is claiming it is an iTunes store issue. I could avoid the iTunes store altogether and purchase through the Comixology website (that is what Comixology support is suggesting), but then I can't use the iTunes Gift Card money I have in my iTunes account.

Has anyone heard any definitive answer from Apple?

Exact same issue except with my iPod. Now it's second gen running on 4.3 (the best update I could do with out jail breaking...) and I am also trying to get Maplestory Cygnus knights.

I know it's not a server issue that can be resolved through waiting becaus eI have been waiting to download for 14 hours and counting.

In addition to this extremely long waiting time, I asked my friend, who was using the exact same wifi as me to download it and it worked fine! She even started playing on it in front of me! The only difference is that her phone is 4th gen.

I initially thought it may be a phone issue, however usually when I try to download an application that is unable to run on my ipod, it will say "This application is not supported on your device" But instead I get the "this item is being modified."

=/ I really hope someone has some kind of solution....

Thanks for the update! Hooray!!! I was FINALLY able to get both the apps! Strange coincidence that this is now working again after being screwed up all since mid- last week. Someone at ITunes MUST have done something to fix it - it just would have been nice if they acknowledged it and let folks know what the issue is so that when it happens again it won't take all this to get past it...

Thanks all for your support - hopefully everyone else is able to download their stuff!

The latest from Apple Non/Support...

Lol...

Really?

UPDATE 2:

I've finally been able to download all of the apps I was having issues with. I don't know what fixed the problem, but it seems to be back to normal now.

Ironically, now that everything works again, I'm more frustrated than I was before. Like other people in here, I have been attempting to have a back-and-forth with Apple's email support, yet it was eerily similar to talking to a brick wall. Now that the problem is fixed, it's almost an unintentional positive for the email support team. The problem I wrote to them about is "fixed" now. So even though they had less than nothing to do with it, they will likely get the credit. Sometimes I cannot stand this company that I love so much.

I was likewise able to download everything I had a problem with. However, I now get the same message from iBlast Moki HD - doubly strange since I had no problem buying iBlast Moki 2 HD or iBlast Moki (non-HD). They're all on a reduced price or free sale this weekend, I have no idea why one would fail and the rest work.

I never even had a second response from Apple Support after I replied to them with a list of other things that weren't working on Saturday. I think they just closed my case and ignored me. It'd be nice if Apple would just once bother to say, "Had some server issues that required a reboot over the weekend, send a message to someone@apple.com if apps get stuck with this message again."

On the other hand, after the sale was over I directly contacted one company whose app was having issues and they forwarded me a redemption code to get the app free again! I didn't expect that, but it was definitely appreciated.

I'm actually a developer that just launched my game yesterday and unfortunately people have told me they get this error message as well. I have a free version of my game and this sort of error makes it very difficult to market the game the way I would like. Of course, before announcing the game, I tried it myself and it worked just fine for me and a couple others. So, it works for some and doesn't work for others - very frustrating. If anybody is checking out this thread and want to try downloading my game (it's free!) then report back here if it worked for you, that would be great!

It's a word game called Word Traveller - here's the link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/word-traveller-lite/id496329483?ls=1&mt=8

Ipad2 app store can't download apps - get error 'item is being modified, try again later', but daughter IS able to download it just fine!
