iTunes freezes when trying to add album artwork

I'm using Lion 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5.3 (3) and when I try to add album artwork to a movie or TV show or song album via get info...iTunes freezes. Anyone else having this issue at all. In all previous versions I was able to accomplish this as well as adding info about the movie, song or TV show.

Thanks for the reply...

I right click on the movie, click on get info, when the tabs come up I select artwork, I then select add, browse my mac and select the .jpg image and click ok. It shows in the artwork in the artwork area, I then click ok and iTunes freezes up. The image is not that large at all. I've never done a copy/paste...I've just always used the right click get info to get to the artwork tab.

It's easy Katy you can also use your intuition! Go to your .jpg or whatever artwork file you want, click on it once to highlight it, go to edit/copy up top (or right click and copy, which is what I do), then go back over to iTunes and open up you cd or movie file to the artwork section and edit/paste from up top (or right click paste) and it should be right there! Good luck!

Thanks for the response, however...now that open the movie to the artwork tab, the artwork tab goes and greys out and I can't do a **** thing...I have to delte it out of my libiary and then add it back to the libiary to get the artwork tab to be live again. Anythoughts...also...when I click on the artwork tab, I can't paste I can only click add..and the problem begins again.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but we have the same problem I'm trying to get movie poster artwork on my DVD collection that I've created which is stored on an external HD and is plugged into a xbox 360 for playback and i thought this would be easy but it has been oddly confusing, all I do is plug in the External HD with the movies and I drag a movie from it into the itunes where it loads "most of which are mp4's or m4v's" it loads on itunes fine and then i click on the movie go to get info go to the artwork tab and add the jpg which is on my desktop and the second i hit ok to add the picture itunes freezes and i have to quit it... the weirdest thing of all this is..... that the first time i did this i add pics to like 4 movies before it started freezing and every once in a while it will work, but mostly not its so annoying : ( . if nobody has any ideas on this could they maybe recommend another method to add pictures bcuz i really want to do this.

Ditto here. I'd really like to figure out what is causing iTunes to hang when I try to update the cover are for a single movie. I've tried reinstalling iTunes, copy/pasting the image file in to no avail. Every time the attempts ends in the spinning beach ball of death. I've tried changing file permissions on the 'Album Art' folder and it didn't seem to make any difference. I do store my media files on an external hard drive. I wonder if that is the common thread for those of us who are having problems with this.

Success.

I read somewhere that I just needed to be patient (that's not one of my better qualities). I tried once... no luck. I tried again, just letting it finish when it was darn well done. I came back to my computer and bingo! The cover art is finally there. Who knows why it should take so long or be so difficult to apply cover art. It never took that long before.

i should explain that my problem with getting artwork for some avi files and even mp4 "because they wont load when I drag them to itunes" that these movies already play fine and look great on my xbox which is where all my movies are played from an external HD so it would be a pain to convert a movie which takes like 4 hrs "I use handbrake" just so I can get the Movie art haha I was just hoping there was some way to trick itunes into loading the movie so i can add the art and then just transfer it back to the xbox.

also as a sidenote if anyone happens to play movies on there xbx as well without using windows media center do you know if there is a way to add a description onto a movie i tried adding one like you do with album art but it didn't show up on xbox I doubt anyone knows but i thought i'd ask that as well. thanks🙂

I was having the exact same infuritating problem! The only diff being that I also updated my itunes to 10.6.1 in the hopes that might help with this problem but it didn't seem to have an effect. The weird thing is that 90% of my movies I had no trouble adding artwork, but a random few just would not let me add any artwork, and no matter how many times i deleted them from my library and re-added them to try again, they still wouldn't work. but i tried what I see someone suggested here already, just waited it out, and after about 90 seconds of the spinning beach ball, the artwork finally stuck. this is a really weird problem for us all to have, and super annoying to boot. i hope this solution works for everyone!
